Has anyone applied for this ?

I have read all the information and I'm thinking of applying but would like some feedback from someone who has applied.

I know this is a new scheme, but I would also be interested if anyone has got on this scheme.

There have been about 400 applications since the scheme was introduced in February this year. As this is a new scheme there are no stats released regarding the numbers of people who have been granted a payment. The majority of those who have been awarded a payment have been assesed as being moderately incapacitated and receive 50% of their invalidity or illness payment.

Great to get some information ... I am sure you might know what sort of waiting times are until a result is known ? Anything else you be gratefully received

I would also like to know what is the failure rate of this scheme is, as I believe you are called before a doctor for examination before you can go on it.

Sorry I haven't heard but as it is only a new scheme I'm sure the applications will be dealt with fairly quickly, no backlog yet.

Don't know the failure rate but if someone is already on Invalidty Pension then the only question is if they are fit to work. If the applicant is on Illness Benefit then the failure rate should be similar to that of people progressing from Illness Benefit to Invalidity Pension, which anecdotally at the moment is fairly high. The department is not very givey when it comes to awarding longterm payments such as IP and now Partial Capacity Benefit.

Thanks for the information... Very interested in this from the angle for someone who is on invalidity for a few years and has the exemption to work. That will expire shortly and this would be an option, what would you think on a case like this

Don't think you would have a problem. AFAIK as everyone on an exemption for IB or IP comes up for review then they will have to apply for PCB, the exemption will still remain for people on Disability Allowance.

Thanks for that, it's always difficult to get feedback on a smaller scheme like this and when there is a risk of losing money there is always a high degree of anxiety . I know no two cases are the same and people often wonder what degree of illness/ condition is required to even qualify. I hope the scheme is a success in keeping people in work or allowing them to go back

Do you mean are they fit to work normally or fit to do a spcific job.

Don't know for sure as this is so new but my understanding of it is that you have to have a specific job in mind and then apply for PCB. AFAIK the employer has to fill out a part of the form, your doctor fills out another section. The form is not downloadable you have to phone the relevent Social Welfare Section and they send it out.

I have the form almost filled in but just can’t bring myself to finish it and sent it in.
There’s no part on it for employers to fill in only GP.
I got some more information from Citizens Advice.
They said that if its passed and even if I’m only classed as moderate and keep 50% of payment I can be assessed at any time re: illness benefit payment and if the think I’m fit for work because I’m already in employment they will cut my IB.
The position that is available to me is on p/t and only for few months to cover leave.
I was on CE and was turned down for exemption and appeal as ‘the rehabilitative nature of my employment was exhausted’
Since finishing CE I feel like my illness has gone backward and I’m feeling worse than when on scheme. I feel I need to do something for my sanity but what employer would be as sympathetic as my CE sponsor.
Sorry if I’m rambling, I’m just confused as what to do.

I would say there is a lot of people in the same position as you. I think if you qualify and are assessed as moderate you should be ok for 12 months.

I got this piece of information off some Web site.
    (b) 52weeks in the case of a person assessed by a medical assessor as having a moderate restriction on his or her capacity for work in relation to the capacity for work of a person of the same age who has no restriction on his or her capacity for work.

I think the bigest problem is passing the test in the first place.

Hi Everyone! I'm hoping to return to work part time i'm on I.B. When your applying for this benifit do you need to have gotton a job. Or do you apply before you go about finding a job.

If a person is allready in invalidity benifit (193 euro per week) and also have a weekly disablement pension too (30% after satisfying a SW medical examination officer),can they also claim this partial capacity benifit too???

    How does it work??

Asking on behalf of a family member,as its the 1st time she has ever heard of this partial capacity payment.

paddy and oscar. to cut a long story short, if you want to take up part-time work while in receipt of illness benefit or invalidity pension you have to ask permission from the department. this was always the case. whats new since this february gone by is that now if you ask for permission they will send a medical assessor to, well, assess you. he will decide how restricted you are in your capacity to work. you may then be allowed to work and still keep someof your sw payment. be wary though. if the assesor decides that you are only mildly restricted in your capacity to work, you may lose your entitlement to any sw payment at all!:(

Is there anyone on here that has recently passed the test and got on Partial Capacity Benefit.

Has anyone been approved for the partial capacity benefit?

I have the opportunity to work 3 hours for 26 weeks in the year, in a school. I am on invalidity pension. I cannot get a definite answer from the department if I would be put back on full pension for the weeks I was not working. www.welfare.ie says I would go back on invalidity if work finished but doesn't say if it would be at reduced rate if I were catagorised lower than profound.

Did you ever get an answer to this? OR what is your situation now? I'm kinda in the same position.

I applied for the benefit but have not heard from them yet. My doctor supported my application with a very detailed explanation of my health condition. The partial capacity section is different from the Invalidity section so they couldn't tell me much except that I would be able to go back on Invalidity if my health deteriorated or the work finished. Are you going to apply?

Thanks for replying. Maybe. If you have to go back on Invalidity do you go back on the full amount? Also, if you work e.g. for 26 weeks a year and not the other 26, can you go back and forth between Partial Capacity Benefit and Invalidity Pension (for when you are not working)?

How long have you been waiting, incidentally? My permission to work expires January 23rd, so I'd need to know before that, or else I'd have to stop work anyway.

The dept will sent you out the forms required for the partial capacity benefit before your time is up.As for hopping between IP and PCB I would think your ability to work and not the availability of a job would be the critera the dept would be after.

Then, if you were classed as 'mild', they should give you 50% of jobseeker's allowance too, if you're out of work.
