Longest Competitive Round?

Played Lough Erne (nice course) in an event at the weekend and it took us 5 and half hours for the 18 holes as the course was busy and I think that some of the golfers thought they were playing in a Major.

I'm normally a quick paced player and this is easily the longest competitive round of golf I've ever played.

I think it's ridiculous for a round to take that long in an Amateur competition and while it didn't spoil the day for me, it would certainly put me off playing in the same event again, so I was wondering what is the longest competitive round of golf you have ever played and why did it take so long?

A couple of medals in our club were over 5 and a half hours we have since changed to 3 balls so no longer a problem.

With everything that could possibly go wrong going wrong a fourball could take up too 4:30 min.

Anything taking longer than that the players obviously did not know what they were doing, and along with that had to be somewhat mentally challenged.

8 hours for an event in Thailand in November.
Was with a group of 90 Indian golfers.

    Loved it

    Longest= 6+ hours
Why= Jesus wept and where to begin, but the main reason imo is,
-Muppets who see the pros on TV taking their time because there's huge money on the line and then thinking they should do the same because they think it looks "cool", also not been ready to play when it's their turn and daydreaming account for the rest of the time lost.

Other than that it's great craic altogether.

This competition was for golfers with a handicap range of 4-9, who imo should know better.

5 hrs plus for a 3 ball Portmarnock links on the St patricks bank holiday Monday, reason being one of our playing partners takes anywhere between one and two minutes over a shot, invariably we always have to let groups through whenever we play together, absolute torture, praise the lord for my weekend club competitions.

That's a nightmare scenario there...I don't think that everyone needs to be a quick player, there is a happy medium with everything, it's the extremes of quick and not so quick that causes the problems.

took 3 1/2 hours to play first 11 holes one time in a society outing, nearly lost my mind, had to walk in

Yeah,my longest game would have been a society outing too. It was pushing the 6hr mark. Main problem was 28 handicapped player who thought he was gods gift to golf. Would hit his drive about 100yds, get up to the ball, still 300 yds or so to the hole, but felt the need to walk 50 yrds past his ball to get a view of the green. Then walk back & hit the ball about 30 yds & repeat the process. Combine that with an insistence to hole out every hole even if they were a scratch by the time they'd reach the green was infuriating. You end up playing terrible yourself as your partner puts you in such a bad mood

Society should have kicked his @ss over that...I'm a ****e golfer just starting out again and if I did that in any round I'd kick my own @ss let alone everyone else in the society.

I did complain to the captain & he is now basically put out in the last grouping at every outing so he is not holding people up

I know, not ideal. They always try to put him out with quicker players to try drag him around a bit quicker but wherever u put him out he's going to be slow unfortunately

very hard say something to them if you want to remain friends. Delicate situation, they might think you are rushing your game.

Unfortunately He is a really good friend and I use to play with him and others every weekend, we have all said it to him but he retorts that he is not rushing, last year on a par 3 in Swords open the guys waiting on the tee box even shouted to him to 'come on for f..ks sake which of course led him to 4 put:D obviously your man was a complete kn.b head for shouting but I could understand his frustration. As alluded to by CharlieIRl its a delicate situation.
