does anybody know if theres a symbol that can be used for searching for a word contained within a document? so say i want to pull up all documents containg the word , roadster for example. is there a symbol i can use before roadster? like *roadstar

thanx sorry i prob make no snese.

I have windows 7 and if I search the word in the search box (in start menu) all documents containing that word will show up. Out of interest is there anything in particular you want to find or is this just for curiosity's sake?

Agent Ransack supports this, or as Aidan suggests Windows Vista/7 has this feature built in

Windows Content Search works only from left to right. i.e. a wildcard search for road* will find roadster, *ster won't.

Agent Ransack doesn't have this limitation.

this is a very good for windows XP as it indexes everything like in Windows 7

Simply the best... but not relevant here. Everything is not a content search engine. ;)

Not 100% sure if it works for Word files but I search the contents of .txt files from command line.

    open cmd
    cd \
    findstr /l /s "roadster" *.* > C:\results.txt

this will create a file in C:\ called results.txt. It will show the locations / filenames of the files that contain "roadster" along with the containing line.
