    Hi all,

I am in the market for a used car, budget €8K. My own car was recently totalled and now I need to get this one relatively quickly as I am paying for a rental.
I want to upgrade from my previous 1.25 fiesta to something heavier, more solid. I've been looking at the Seat Leon's as they are quite stylish in my opinion but I don't know enough about them to make an informed decision.

If anyone has any thoughts I would apreciate the input.

    Thanks a mil,

    J

Volkswagen Golf or an Audi A3! Given the A3 is a 1.6 but you would get alot of car for 8000 beans!

Unless you go for the TSi version of the 1.4 litre engine in the Leon then it will be 75/80bhp version which is slow all day and not a great engine. The 1.4 TSi models are turbo charged, have 125bhp and a 6 speed gear box, they should also have TSi badges on them.

On your budget you should be aiming for a 08 like this one, the Sport model with the Plus pack, it should be achievable to buy that for around €8k since you have no trade in. Bonus is that it slightly cheaper to tax on the new system too.

There is a premium when it comes to pricing of Golfs and A3's. They are not good value for money.

Your joking right? The Golf and the A3 are possibly the worst value cars in their class out there. They are overpriced and generally poorly specced. The OP will get alot better value from the Leon or an Octavia which are basically the same car anyway.

OP, I also look at the Hyundai i30 or Kia Ceed, these cars came with long warranties and are very reliable:

A Leon is hardy a potrait either either and the interior looks like it was engineered and fitted by Fisher Price.

What do you expect from a 1.4 hatchback - very little design flair in any of them. In fact may mainstream vehicles all look alike these days.

Why exactly does it have to be a 1.4?

Maybe a stylish and elegant Golf MkIV would be in order (still laughing at that thread from last week). :pac:

You hit the nail on the head there with the Hyundai I30 bazz, know someone that picked up one up on that budget and they wouldn't have got the same reliability/age/miles anywhere else. The Ceed is nicer tho.

It's better looking than any of it's German rivals.
I don't get the Irish obsession with German cars, they're bleedin' aweful looking.

A Hyundai i30 is nowhere near as aesthetically pleasing as a VW Golf. No, no, no.

The golf is the worst example you could have picked - just gets more roundy and lumpy looking everytime. The A3 and the Polo at least have some kinda design going on.

Probably the worst reason ever to buy any car.

Soft touch plastics and bits of chrome everywhere might give some easily pleased people a boner, the likes of VW know this which is why they continue to only offer their products with a miserable 2 year warranty which is the same as you can get on a €30 toaster. But the sensible money is on the like of Hyundai or Kia with their long warranties where the total cost of ownership will be alot lower.

You'd gt an 08 Kia ceed 1.6 petrol in the uk for small money and the tax is cheap on them too.

Korean cars have come a long way and really don't deserve this kind of thought any more.
Keep up with the times, it's China we're hating on now! :D

Shudda gone to specsavers... The clue is in the title - best value. We'll call you the next time there's a search for most "overpriced based on paddy posh pretentiousness"

LOL - just saw you thanked my "stylish and elegant MkIV Golf" suggestion, that was fairly obvious sarcasm!

Dont forget to look at the Fiat Bravo 1.4 150 bhp with the sport package. The 2008 can be got at a good price and they are 0-60 in 8.2 seconds.
They have the blue and me phone system which also reads texts out loud in the car and the usb port usually.
