Right, so ive been playing golf for about a year. Even played in the first Boards outing, played poorly mind you.
After six months of playing golf with a Spalding beginner set. which i bought for €50 from a friend. I decided to buy a set of MD ST2.including the 24 and 21 degree hybrid. I bought them in JJB, And for anyone who ever bought golf stuff in JJB, to 'Try them out' you get to hit them into a big net. Anyway i was hitting them pretty well or so i thought. But i then took the golf clubs out on the rounds with me and i was shocking, i mean terrible, hitting 2or3 over par per hole. But i figured new clubs new grips etc so ill bare with it and give em a few months.
So last week i decided that f*ck it ,ive been havin no success with these clubs, ill give the old Spalding a shot, and guess wat??
I was awesome.hitting irons super, few birdies, and a few pars, 1 scratch(stupid water gettin in the way). So then i thought maybe im back .so next round tried MD's again, fell to sh*t. The spalding clubs are as ugly as sin, but i hit well. as they are very forgiving i guess?

    So wat do i do??
Do i sell the nice new fancy MD clubs, which i love the look of and style etc but cant hit for Crap.
or Do i get myself fitted, and the MD's fixed to suit the swing.

And yes i know i should have got myself tested in the first place, wasting money on ''off the shelf'' clubs was a bad idea.
Anyone else ever had something like this happen?

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Sean

We've all done that in the past. There are two ways you can go. Change bits and pieces trying to get something to work or sell the lot start from scratch and get a full set of custom fit clubs. If moneys an issue (who doesn't have an issue with that?) go with the first option. If you've got the cash go with the latter.

What way are you hitting them badly?
    Topped, fat, slice, hook etc?
Is it always the same bad shot?

mmm well the new fancy hybrids.i cant hit at all. i always seem to hit them thin. and my stance is the same for the spalding hybrid, i even tried to change stance to suit it, but i cant hit them well at all. The irons im finding im not hitting the 'sweet spot' im always hitting the toe of the club(north of sweetspot).and that send all my irons far right, im right handed btw.
I have a terrible issue with my driver of going straight then off to right by 10-15 yards anyway but ive learned to live with it.

Im a very average golfer, playing of an unofficial handicap of 18. and i have the basics kind of ok. but these new clubs have me ruined.lol

Forget getting fancy new clubs. Get yourself a few lessons and take if from there.

Ive had several different lessons with 3 different pro's in the Limerick/Clare area. And one wont train me unless i give him a committment of a year+, second thought me the bad habit i have of strong grip on right hand, and third was quite poor overall. Im not in the position to be at a lesson everyweek or even in the long term.

This is Clearly the Most frustrating and loveable game in the world.

To be honest topping them sounds more like a player problem than a club problem, probably not what you wanted to hear but a sound swing can pretty much hit any club (not including crazy shaft flexes)
Also, toeing it a lot is likely to be you again and not the club, there is nothing on the club that would cause it move so it must be you thats moving. Are the clubs the same length as the old ones?

Sean send me a pm of who you went to. I have some recommendations and believe me they won't want a year's commitment!

Just a quick one - are the new clubs the same length as your old ones?

The MD hybrids are about an inch longer. the irons are a lighter then my original set.

I also think that i have a fast swing, and the spalding set i had are a stronger shaft even thought they all regular shaft.. the new MD's seem to be very flexible even thou they are regular.
The Hybrids for example seem very thin compared to the spalding hybrid.
