If ever somebody deserved a testimonial this is the man.

Just watched New Air Crash Investigations programe on the Munich air disaster. After climbing out of the wreckage and being called a "stupid bastard" by the captain for not running away from the plane which he felt was about to explode Harry Gregg goes back in to rescue a screaming child. He goes back in a number of times to help out other passengers and team members. In the documentary I watched he came across as a truly humble man who did not consider he had done anything heroic "a man's got to do what a mans got to do" I believe is what he said about it.

I had a quick google there to read more about this hero and I see that he has a testimonial coming up in May when Man Utd will face an Irish League Select XI. I hope he gets a full house and the warmest reception for a man who did more for his club than most (apart from his heroics in Munich) playing for 9 years but missing out on medals the team won over that time due to unfortunate timing of injuries.

Link here to Man Utd page on the testimonial.

yeah would have loved to have gone to his testimonial, but funds wont stretch, as I'm going to OT for Swansea game.

Remember watching documentaries over the years, normally around the anniversary of the crash, and one thing that always struck me about Harry Gregg was his modesty. There was one particular programme that i think was on this year, where he met the girl he saved iirc, and her family. (Vera Lukic??), which was a remarkable story!

    Proper hero.

Just got my tickets now in the west stand, should be a good cheap match to go see the united players in Ireland.

Pretty certain I remember reading that he only recently met the man whose wife and unborn child he saved. That guy's whole family could have been wiped out had it not been for Gregg's quick actions. Incredible.
