Car trouble after advance pitstop/groupon service

I used a groupon oil and filter service there last week in advance pitstop and since then my engine seems to be leaking. It was ok before I left it in. I noticed it yesterday on my driveway in the rain. It was multicoloured because of the rain but was all over my driveway. Car is running ok and temp gauge is fine and all but I'm concerned now.
Has anyone ever had this issue with them before? A colleague of mine used this group on afew months ago in a different location to me and his car started leaking oil after the service. He didn't bring it back.

Anyone any ideas what it could be? I can't upload the photo as I am doing this post on my phone

    Cheers

It very unlikely that they would have under-tightened the sump bolt but do bring it in and mention you think it's leaking.

dip the car for oil asap to ensure its ok.

There might be a crushable washer on the sump plug that should be replaced with an oil change; sometimes it's reused if it looks ok, but it could cause a leak.

Don't try to just tighten the sump plug more; if it is leaking you'll need to replace the washer and tighten the sump nut to the right torque. The sump is soft, so over tightening can strip the threads and leave you with a whole other problem.

As said, dip the oil and have a glance at the filter and sump if possible, than bring it back to them.

I checked the oil the other day and it's topped up fine. I just checked under the car now and there is a big puddle of oil. 9 inch diameter!

I haven't a clue about cars so wouldn't touch anything on it. I called them and they said to bring it back and they will look at it!

It could just be overspill from when they added the oil or filter and it ran down engine after the rain. Is the large spill actual oil or just oil over water?

They've just said that there is a(something) housed behind my oil filter and when they were changing the filter it was tight and might have opened the other bolt by accident and that caused the leak? This (something) has a bolt that goes the whole way through it. I've a 06 diesel Kia sportage

Said they will tighten it up and top levels back up again and I'd be done

    Sound plausible?

They probably just made that up to make you feel better, they would need to look to know what they need to do.

sounds like a banjo bolt, would be very surprised if they 'loosened' it by accident. at least they're not saying its somthing completely different and trying to charge you more for fixing it.

They said it was the oil cooler and rectified it but if I notice it leaking again to bring it back. Was up on the ramp for an hour

Overpriced tyre salemen now thinking they are machanics. Anyone who gets something done in one of these places should get it double checked by a main dealer or indy garage.

Had an issue with them when I used that voucher too: they cross threaded the spark plugs. Haven't been back.

Maybe they reused the old washer on the sump nut and its leaking a bit. Not sure if you could get 9 inches of oil overnight if it was from overfill a week ago but I could be wrong.

Thats a little OTT. It probably just wanted another nip on the filter.kboardheros.jpg

Decent enough of them to go near the plugs though.

If I remember right it wasn't all that cheap. When you pay for a job to be done you don't expect a botched job that could damage your car.

I bought the deal and used advance in Wexford and they were excellent, the mechanics knew their stuff and they fixed several small items for free as well

Actually, I retract that. It wasn't a Groupon Deal or Advance Pitstop. It was the Boardsdeals job for Atlas!

In fairness that's a silly post. So you suggest getting a car service done in place A and then paying place B to make sure they done it right? someone has money to burn! If you dont have confidence in there places why would you go there in the first place?
Either way these garages have gone into servicing because of the abundance of qualified mechanics they can get due to all the dealerships closing down.

Advance outlets were servicing cars in the late 90s and probably before that too.

They have qualified mechanics working for them. Could just be one of those things, Atlas have a good reputation and I used advance before with no problems.

    your right there.
I only made the comment as I worked for a similar company that has gone heavy into servicing and repairs on the basis they can get qualified mechanics for the same money they were paying tyre fitters a couple of years back. As a business model it seems to be the way to go currently.
