I spotted 3 of these guys on Sandymount strand today on route to work, I ran back and got my camera, I'm expecting it to be a common enough bird but Ive lived here for years and have never seen one on the strand.

Can anyone inform me what it is?

Are these quite rare in Ireland or a common enough sighting these days?

They are now common enough and breed here. Up to the late eighties they were rare visitors but they have well and truly established themselves here now.
