Final Year Question

    Hi all,

This may seem like a stupid question but after trawling boards and the DCU website I can't find a definitive answer.

Is it possible to repeat a semester in final year if you haven't failed? I need a 2.1 to do a masters next year, and with final exams and assignments coming up, it's going to be tight. So if I don't get my 2.1, can I just resit the semester and refuse my degree, or will it be capped at a 2.2? Each college seems to be different and according to some the regulations changed last year??? There was some medical issues that meant I wasn't able to attend some tutorials and things that the head of school is aware of but I'd rather repeat if possible rather than getting a sympathy grade, if that makes sense!!??

Any help is greatly appreciated as I don't want to email anyone without some information first.
    Thanks, LMS

Not 100% sure but I don't think you can repeat unless you've actually failed a module? At least that's the way when I was there, bad memories of final year myself there, 1.something percent off a 2.1 and in their wisdom they decided not to give it to me. I needed it but thankfully the institution I applied to, after reviewing my actually quite good results, gave me a place, they couldn't understand how DCU arrived at a 2.2 with the results I had. C'est la vie. If you look up marks and standards maybe that would answer your question more definitively.

Thanks a mill for the reply. I'm actually getting so freaked out I can't concentrate on the last assignments which need to be utterly fantastic to get a 2.1.....it's a vicious cycle :D I'd be in the same position as yourself, if I don't get it, it'll be 1 or 2 %.

    Thanks again ;)

Go to the following website: http://www4.dcu.ie/registry/student_awards_map.shtml and you will find contact details for DCU staff who will have the answer to your question.

You can't repeat something if you haven't failed it. However if you did have some reason e.g. medical that meant you weren't able to do exams or other assessments you may be able to defer them depending on the specifics of the situation.
