Yes, but you need to convert to the UK qualification, which you can either do by taking an examination or by practicing for 4 years and paying a fee. You do need to be called to the Bar and be a member of an Inn of Court in the UK as well. It's difficult to do that given the chambers system and demand for places.

In-House - Yes, but currently you cannot represent the company you work for in Court.

As you've been answered so completely and quickly I hope you don't mind me hijacking this to ask if anyone knows if its "just" a case with the BL, to go over to the states and sit the relevant state bar exam?

Anyone know what the story is with Canada and the BL?

I think that you actually need a Law Degree of 3/4 years in duration of a recognised type. I am not sure (but have heard) that the BL doesn't qualify, as it is to short in length and specific. Some other posters may have views on that.

Thanks Tom - Assuming the undergrad degree is Law if anyone knows?

I know some 3 year LL.Bs will qualify you to sit the New York Bar - passing it would, no doubt, be another story.

LLB entitles you to sit the bar exam in new york and you can sit the californian bar exam if you are a qualified lawyer so basically just the BL. Not sure if a law degree is required too.
