I remember that 205 from years ago. Glad to see it is alive and well.

It shocks me that someone can do something like that to that bmw 2002 and still bring it out to shows!!! Well it takes all sorts I suppose.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,003 ✭✭✭bijapos

Love the 504 Break. brings back some memories. Like their reg plate too, it's the small things that add up to make cars like that stand out.

The Cortina comes up on cartell.ie as a 2.0l Cortina, must have been a car that didn't sell for a few years, or it was the usual botch job or "buddy job" UK import in the County council office.

I don't like that modified job on the 2002 but to be fair the 80's* were the heyday of nutjob German boyracer "Manni Manta" mania and that wide body Beemer is no exception. Firms like Mattig, Zender, Koenig etc were all the rage, the more outrageous the better and original ones are actually sought after in Germany now. Each to his own I suppose but that looks like a particularly nasty example. The "M2" badge is home made and looks a bit daft.

*Yes, I know it's a 70's car, but it takes a few years for the likes of that to become affordable to the boyracer crowd.

Yeah since when were Mk 5 Cortinas made in 1987 ?

Wouldnt you think they would give a wash to that Toyota at least:rolleyes:
Was that part of the show?

The AMC Pacer is an unusual spot, likely the only one in the country. They're damn fugly though!

    Great photos, thanks.
When/where is the next vintage event taking place?
I went to one in Slane last year and enjoyed it - I only found out about it from a guy with a vintage car in Phoenix park the day before. I checked IVVCC site but is there more detailed info around?
    Any useful info appreciated.

There's gotta be an interesting story behind this car. Unsold for 5 years?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,105 ✭✭✭hi5

It could have been imported into England in 87,so the year of first reg would be 87 on the DVLA, and thats what they saw in the VRT office here in Ireland, ignoring the year of manufacture for registration purposes.

It happened to me , I almost got a 94 reg instead of 90 on an MX5 until I pointed it out:rolleyes:
The car had been exported from Northern Ireland to England in 94.

Try a 1988 Mk2 Escort for size if that confuses you :D :

    Untitled-2.jpg

88-LK-1000. Probably the hardest-driven mk2 that ever saw a bit of tarmac :D

Well to be honest, rally cars dont really surprise me about the years as they are probably rebuilt every few years with the abuse they get.But if it was a "normal" road going car, I would be surprised.

Serious motor the Escort! That was built from a new shell in 1988 afaik, I think its been crashed beyond repair by now though?

A fella by the name of Will Onions owns this in the UK re regd as 167AWO I'm nearly sure according to the rally lads. That regd Escort rallied in Rally GB last November 2011 anyway so the reg lives on anyway be it an English one.

You know rally Escorts never really go beyond repair ;);)

Edit: Just found the old thread saying the same as above http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=62408951

Agreed! Great to see it alive and out-and-about (albeit on a transporter).
Last time I saw it was in Fraynes Garage, Naas in the late 1980's.

I attended the show last year and agree about the cowsh*t.
Tbh, I much preferred the show when it was based at Durrow Castle..more of pleasant setting, rather than just 'a car show in a (mucky) field'.

(I know it got too big for the castle grounds, btw).
    Just my 2c.

    Apologies for being pedantic but...

How do you know it was the same Fordson E27N (i.e no reg plates)?

I wouldn't imagine so, the shade of the orange / red are different, tyres are different, wiring for the lights are different, and the one in durrow is fitted with a starter motor and has the handle removed
