    Sunday, April 22, 2012 - 10:00 AM

A post mortem will be carried out today on the body of a cyclist who died in a collision in Cork yesterday.

The woman, aged 50, was cycling on the Bandon Road on the western outskirts of the city when the accident happened around 5pm near the Viaduct.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her remains were taken to Cork University Hospital for a post mortem.

The driver of the car was also taken to CUH where he was treated for shock.

The inbound lane was closed for several hours as garda forensic road traffic collision investigators conducted a technical examination of the scene.

Gardaí have urged witnesses to the accident to contact either Togher or Bishopstown garda stations.

Nothing to add at the moment as I don't have any further information on incident. Purpose of posting article was to generate discussion on fatality and on dangers of cycling in general.
