Genoa's match with Siena was suspended for 45 minutes after a fan disturbance that saw the home players intimidated in the middle of the pitch and forced to remove their shirts by angry fans.

    Rest of the story here.

A bit mad but how many of us have felt from time to time that players don't deserve to represent our club or country?

Quality! I've lost count of the number of times I'd loved to have done that!

Was watching it live - disgraceful stuff from the ultras to be honest!
Yer man who refused to take his shirt off talking to them at the tunnel has mafia connections so he stood his ground :pac:

Fair enough, supporters get annoyed at players but Ultras are supposed to get behind the team not intimidate them.

The players must be seriously intimidated by the Ultras to do that.

This time it was the shirts, what will the Ultras make them do next time - Strip off completely?

Thin end of the wedge, not to be encouraged.

There comes a time when that patience runs thin. Obviously that sort of behaviour is completely unacceptable though.

As the scoreline suggests, it hardly motivates the players.

Utter stupidity. I understand how upset they must feel if they think the players don't want to play for the shirt, but how will anyone want to play for Genoa now? "Hey, you're a good player, sign for us. If you do badly, we will intimidate and humiliate you." is the message they are sending out. They have alienated the players at the club and surely put off anyone from playing for them in the future, surely?

Taking a stand against players not giving a **** is one thing, but that is far too extreme.

They were 4 nil down and already just outside the relegation zone. Doesn't seem like they were pouring their everything into it beforehand.

    Erm, no ?

There's plenty of players who would love to play for Genoa, they're a great club with otherwise fantastic fans.

This is over the top, but it's not like they attacked the players, like some other Ultras have done in the past.

Um, someone has to be relegated so that doesn't always mean they didn't pour everything into it.

    hth.

You can't justify this. It was intimidation plain and simple. In a country like Italy it's all the more ominous. It's definitely going to put off prospective players.

Of course there are still plenty of people who want to play for big teams but the players who are actually good enough to play for other big teams will think to themselves "Why take a chance?"

They didnt attack them, they intimidated and embarrassed them. Some of the players were reduced to tears. I doubt even Robbie Keane would want to play for them after that.

Genovese supporters, whether they be Sampdoria or Genoa, have long been regarded as lunatics. It comes as no surprise to me. Genoa have been appalling this season, given the calibre of player they have in their squad. Still, it's a bit OTT.

There's been a long history in Italy of fans threatening players. Plenty of occasions of players being attacked, cars stoned etc at training. The Ultras seem to have too much sway in Italy. There was riot police beside them, could they not have been 'escorted' off the pitch?

Agree that potential Genoa players might think twice about signing for them.

Aron Winter forced out of Lazio for being black was really shameful stuff.

Fans generally have a say in clubs tbh, stuff on par with this not so much but there are always protests abroad about running of clubs, players, etc... Zagreb boycotted matches for a good bit last season iirc.

Remember at Shels, BD had a display in 2008 saying "Play for the shirt". Think it happened nearing the end of the season when the players started bottling promotion.
