WD TV Live + HD issue

Have a new WD Live TV unit with a 1TB Iomega HD connected via USB. I'm getting a bit of erratic behaviour where the unit doesn't detect the drive and when it does seems to be spend ages scanning through the drive. Any tips or tricks on getting a smoother start up?

Try connecting the drive to a computer and repairing it?

Work a try I suppose though I have no reason to suspect that there's an issue with the drive.

The white light is flashing on the front of the WD unit.

Do you have Get Content Info set to auto?

Is it a USB 3.0 drive? There was some issue with one of the ports on the WDTV wasn't there?

The HDD is about years old. I'm pretty sure it's USB2.0.

Get Content Info - should this be set to Auto or Manual. I hadn't checked this before - thought it was something to do with metadata.

It is, but if you have it set to auto it scans your library every time.

Check what your scan interval for your media library is set to I have mine set to once a day.

I have seen it take a couple of hours to build the media library on mine with close to 750GB of content and of that 30-40gb of music and ~13,000 pics.

If you set "Get Content Info" to auto it will pull down all the meta data from the tvdb and themoviesdb sites and store them in an xml and metathumb file on your harddrive.

What way have you set the WDTV to view the files on your HDD via media library or via file/folder system?
Actually do you get to see the content at all via the wdtv?

What format is the HDD NTFS/FAT32 etc? as I seem to remember some issues with FAT32.

I have the drive (Iomega Prestige HDD 1TB USB 2.0, pre-formatted as NFTS) connected to the rear USB. The HDD would have connected until recently to a Win XP machine.

At the moment there's not even 100GB on the drive itself so small beer compared with other users.

The problem I have is that when I switch on the WD Live it sometimes won't find the drive and then eventually kicks in.

    What settings would you recommend?

I think you are probably best asking a question over on the WDC forum if it is as you saying taking a while to find the HDD as it doesnt sound like any of the other common issues with the wdtv that are known.

I would personally ensure the firmware is up to date and then add the files to the media library with get content info set to on (unless you are using thumbgen or similar) and then set the media library to scan daily.
