Hi guys, the wifes car which is a daewoo lanos 1.4 hatch 2002 has been running poorly for a good few months and it sounded like it was running on 3 cylinders and today i got a chance to have a look at it and one of the leads is not working,ie pluging it out or in makes no difference, with the other leads there is a big drop in engine sound/revs when any of the other 3 are plugged out,i will attach a few pics but the lead look very dirty and corroded and what i need to know is,
1 do i need to buy a complete set of leads or can i buy them individually
2 best place/price to buy(will try some dismantlers in the morning)
3 would it be any use to give the dirty corroded contact a clean in the meantime
4 the wife has been driving it like this for up to a year and i presume she will notice the difference on petrol consumption once its sorted.
it has to be a diy job i do as im out of work for 2 years and the day of handing it it to my mech(whos is first class with 1st class prices is gone until some work opens up sometime, pics below and thanks for reading, regards

    Hello :)

1 do i need to buy a complete set of leads or can i buy them individually

Well strictly speaking as only one of them is problematic than you only need to replace that one to sort it, ideally they are replaced as a set :)

2 best place/price to buy(will try some dismantlers in the morning)

    http://www.micksgarage.ie/ignition-parts/ignition-leads/daewoo/lanos/lanos/1997-onwards/1.4/9030/

Set of QH ones there from Mick's garage for under €28 inc VAT, your local factors should have a set in stock but they may stock more expensive brands. Motor factors usually have sound staff, ask them for their best price and they might well give you a discount :)
Your local scrapyard might well give you a set very cheaply but who knows what state they'd be in.

3 would it be any use to give the dirty corroded contact a clean in the meantime

    Wouldn't do any harm.

4 the wife has been driving it like this for up to a year and i presume she will notice the difference on petrol consumption once its sorted.

If it's running on 3 cylinders getting it back to firing on 4 will indeed help fuel consumption.

    Best of luck with it.

A faulty sparkplug would have effect.

True, OP swap two plugs over to verify it's the lead that's the issue :)

If you've been driving with a misfire for over a year then you'll be looking for a new cat and lambda sensors for the next NCT too.
