Thousands to discover Killaloe and Ballina

Sunday, April 29 has been chosen as the date for the Discover Day in Ballina and Killaloe, which aims to create local tourism ambassadors to play a key role in highlighting what is on offer for visitors and tourists all year round.

A committee of local business people and voluntary groups, chaired by Doug Hyde of Satyma, has been working to compile the content for the brochure for the event.

“Businesses are giving a taste of the services and facilities to customers for free on April 29. Once local people better understand the unique tourism, recreational and retail products on offer in Killaloe and Ballina, the better able we will be to keep tourists and business in this area,” he said.

Facilitated by Waterways Ireland, Fáilte Ireland, Shannon Development and Clare and North Tipperary county councils, the group already has information on visitor attractions, water activities, arts and crafts, face painting, live music, a historical walking tour of Killaloe and Ballina, boat trips and other land and water activities.

Sure there is no such thing as poor weather, just a poor choice of clothing.
Plenty of layers and a rain coat and you will be grand.

Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Alan Kelly officially opened a heated outdoor pool, outdoor gym and multi-use gaming area (MUGA) costing an estimated €122,348 in Ballina/Killaloe last Friday evening June 1st.
THE Ballina outdoor swimming pool was the only outdoor pool to receive significant funding for energy conservation under the Capital Sports Programme this year. That’s according to Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Alan Kelly, who officially opened the heated outdoor pool, outdoor gym and multi-use gaming area (MUGA) costing an estimated €122,348 in Ballina on Friday.

With the provision of an average of 23C of heat in the pool, Minister Kelly predicted this would boost its overall usage during the summer months.
North Tipperary county manager, Joe MacGrath praised the communities in Ballina and Killaloe for what they had achieved in recent times.
“This is a very special place, not just because of the lakes and the mountains but it has a special community. Now I get the sense more than ever we have two towns, Ballina and Killaloe, working even closer together and are determined to improved their locality.
