    Hey
Done a interview for Computer applications (CA) in DCU on the 20th April, I think(and hope) it went well.
I prepared for the interview weeks in advance,Studied the modules and DCU done a cover-letter,C.V and a portfolio about the assessments I done in college this year in a HETAC level 6 course plus MTA certification.
At the very end of the interview I was asked do I have any questions and the very last question I asked the interviewer was when will I find out If I got the position in CA he replied that it go's through CAO and should be around July??

Just wondering if anyone has experience of successfully being accepted as a mature student in DCU can tell us,how and when were you accepted in the course??
Already climbing the walls to find out if I got accepted.

    Thanks Eugene

    Hi Shankly88

From what I gathered from a few of the lads at the interview, people were asked different questions but the one's I've been asked was:

Where do you see yourself in 4 or 5 years time?
4 years is a long time to go back to full time education, how will you cope financially?
Asking questions about one or two results on my leaving cert.
Whats your most proudest achievements since leaving School?
Then a bit of chat about jobs that are coming to Ireland from Tech firm's.
And the last question was do you have any Questions which you should have around 2 or 3.

Know some modules on the degree your choosing, what interest's you about bachelor of business in DCU.

Hope your interview go's well, best of luck.:)

bad news on my part i went to the interview and they told me before i started that they were extremly impressed with my experience since i left school.. working in banking/finance ect. and the fact i run my own football team.

they said i had the ability but were worried about the fact i haven't been in edcuation since i finished my leaving cert when i was 18. they recomended i do a 1 year or 2 year course in a hed or plc school and come back and they will gladly accept me.. im going to take their advice on board and they seem like decent people.

however im abit annoyed i work hard over the last few weeks preparing and buying new clothes to look well and they didnt offer me a chance. i dont know why the bothered giving me a interview in the first place. bit devastated but what can u do :( i hope u have better look eug and let me know when ya hear the good news :)

Man that's harsh,Sorry to hear you didn't get it.
Maybe the people interviewing you had experience of seen people that hadn't been in education for years tend to drop out more.

I think your taking their advice well and being very positive about it,I done a part time course for 1 year got my HETAC certificate with other qualifications so hopefully it shows I can commit to college work and stress etc... If you can probably ask the guys that interviewed you what course they had in mind that can help you to get in next year?

Thanks Shankly fingers crossed,I really want to be in DCU this September.I post up any news I hear from DCU,Good luck man.

that's terrible shankly, if they knew before they'd even spoke to you then why would they give you an interview? hopefully they'll reconsider as if you're good enough to get an interview then surely you're able for the course! good luck anyway!

    Hi

Whilst it seems harsh I think you should take it as a positive that they invited you for a one-to-one meeting. It sounds like someone was very impressed with you but they wanted to convey to you in person how to maximise your chances of completing the degree. Believe me 1st year business is tough the modules are very varied and move incredibly fast with continous assessment. I know Colaiste Dhulaigh offer excellent Fetac 5/6 in Business it has strong links to DCU. Definately worth a look. It you perform exceptionally well at level 6 you may get entry to 2nd year business in DCU.

    All the best

thanks hopefully in 2 years ill be where i want to be :)

I agree 100% i am very thankfull of the advice i recieved and appreciate the fact they took time out to talk to me and they were very nice.i was just a bit disheartened. in hindsight i should of realised however that i never really had a chance and its a good learning experience.

I have applied to do a few level 6 courses around south dublin and have a interview with dit in business managment level 6 higher certificate on thursday. hopefully i can impress and get it id love to do it. its only 5 minutes down the road so its certainly convenient. colaiste dhulaigh is just to far the 9 leaves me to dcu but no where near killbarack or coolock.

    Hey Eugene

Just wondering how your finding back in education I'm planning on going back next year. Just wondering how dcu is treating you? How difficult do you find the adjustment?

    Cheers
    Craig
