    Hi All.

Just wondering if you could help me out here, having a debate with the other half, who also happens to use boards.

We were having a discussion about how long the human body can go without food, approximately 1 month.

then I said, "yea your body would eat itself into submission, i.e 'DEATH'

Is this in the context of the argument a plausible sentence?

I would have thought submission would be an option you would take to escape death... Eg. I submit to you so I don't get killed. Submission is defined as the acknowledgement of the legitimacy of the power of ones superior or superiors. So sorry but I think you have used the word 'submission' somewhat out of context if you meant to say death. According to the English dictionary submission does not mean death or dying nor is submission another word for death. Submission is an alternative route someone may take in order to avoid death or dying.

I'd disagree with the previous poster. Submission doesn't mean death, but I think it's legitimate to say that someone submits to death. Or in your case, submits to the circumstances that lead to death.

Tell your other half you win ;)

I agree one can submit to death.. Absolutely! But can a body eat itself into submission???

I agree someone can submit to death... Absolutely! But can a body eat itself into submission???? If a body is starving and using all it's protein and fat stores etc and digesting itself.... This point is valid. But to digest itself into submission???? Just sounds like a weird sentence.....

    What's the actual argument?

Argument... What would you take from the sentence " the body would eat itself into submission"?

    What's the actual argument?

    Basically my sentence which was

Your body would eat itself into submission
Is a valid sentence when used in the context of talking about how long you can survive without food.

Argument... What would you take from the sentence " the body would eat itself into submission"?

Take into account the CONTEXT the sentence was used in, which was about how long you could live without food.

I can't see any Creative Writing angle to this whatsoever

    Moving to English.
