Toshiba 40BV702B no saorview picture?

Purchased a Toshiba 40bv702b 40in LCD TV in Argos Ireland fairly certain in the shop the saorview approved logo was beside it however it sat in the box the past month so only installed yesterday.

Basically it will not display any saorview picture it tunes the channels fine and the EPG, Teletext and subtitles work however the picture displays "this video format is not supported".

Anyone else got this issue? Can this be fixed by a setting I cannot find or is it just not saorview compatable?

Also is their a firmware update that may fix this issue?

It's not on the Saorview approved list.

Audio and no picture would indicate a non compatible MPEG-2 TV, check in the manual specs for MPEG-4 AVC - the video standard Saorview uses. Did you use Ireland as the install country?

Will have to fight the case with argos so, my 30 days no quibble return purchase time has lapsed. So its a bit of a pain.

I did indeed use Ireland and made sure it was digital as the install country.

Why Ireland and digital was present in the tuner then no picture baffles me. I will check for MPEG-4 it was an install for my brother.

I have a walker saorview STB as a temp solution to the issue. However I would like to sort the TV permanently.

Just had a look at the manual, MPEG-2 only. Should not be on sale in Ireland without a warning it's not compatible with Saorview.

On argos.ie it says saorview or 'non' saorview.
    Yours is under 'non'

Just buy a saorview box. In lidl last thursday for €54 euro.

Nothing on the product page or link to indicate the TV is non-Saorview or not compatible and the spec on the page list its digital features.

Was the person who purchased the TV told at the point of sale the TV was non-compatible?

I check that pre purchase and I beg to differ:

Under TV I selected non-saorview, then toshiba this is what I got:

My model is not in the Toshiba non saorview section.

    Do a CTRL+F and search 40bv702b?

40BV702B isn't listed anywhere on the site. I suspect the 'B' only refers to the colour (black) as the 'T' version is titanium.

So your black version is a 'B' & the listed model no. just doesn't take this into account (a typo in other words).

On the main Argos.ie webpage enter the exact model number 40BV702B and it turns up the TV every time.

You are more than likely correct, however Argos are wrong. As I searched on the exact model pre the purchase, did not see that model in the non saorview section and assumed I was good to purchase the TV.

    I think I have a case?

Definitely, everything should be made clear for purchasers at this stage, indeed they shouldn't even be selling those models in Ireland (they're even obsolete for the UK as they don't do Freeview HD).

If bought inside last two years take it back. Packaging not needed. A Credit card statement may do as proof of purchase if you lost receipt.

Had a bit of luck on this one in the end the speakers stopped working. In fairnesss I returned it and got a lovely new Samsung in its place that was Saorview approved.

No problems at Argos Clonmel swapping it so it all worked out.

It is not fit for sale in Ireland as the tuner is incompatible with basic free to air television services. It was your expectation that it would do this at the least. Why are they selling this junk ? Thank them for wasting your time.

    These will be fine
