Does anyone know how cone from sum 41 (bass player) get his tone, I really like it, most notably on in too deep and heart attack?

The recording process can have a major effect on the final sound result. So it is not all down to the bass, amp, strings etc., though they play their part also.

P bass through an Ampeg SVT. But you could probably get close enough to it with a bit of dirt, compression and boosted upper-mids. A Tech 21 Sansamp would easily get you in the right range also... and honestly it doesn't hurt to have a DI around as a bass player. It saves having to lug a huge amp around and is good as a backup. ;)
