Hi, My daughter has DCU down on her CAO and we are looking at the accommodation options there. She has seen something on line regarding subsidised accommodation for a small number of students . She's made an application through the HEAR programme and expects to be accepted on this. Does anyone know if the subsidised scheme requires a separate application or if all HEAR students are automatically considered? I can't get to the pdf on line so I don't know if this is even still available. Any help would be appreciated

Yes there is a subsidised accommodation scheme available through the DCU Access Office. For more information please go to http://www4.dcu.ie/students/access/routes.shtml and you can download the application form and guide

The application deadline has been extended to mid May. Contact studenthelp@dcu.ie if you are having problems viewing the pdf.

    Hey,

I'm on the 100% subsidised accommodation scheme this year. Your daughter needs to apply separately for the subsidised accommodation. This is the link to the application: http://www4.dcu.ie/sites/default/files/students/access/DCU_applicationform.pdf

If your daughter is hoping for reduced points entry she won't be eligible for the Subsidised Accomodation. What I mean is, if she is eligible for the HEAR scheme and she doesn't meet the point requirements of her course, she won't be able to get subsidised accommodation. But she will receive her course on a reduced points basis and a scholarship of €1000, which is still pretty good.

Furthermore, I wasn't accepted to the HEAR scheme, as I didn't meet all the requirements but I had applied to DCU access as well (Through the above link) and was accepted by them and given the 100% subsidised accomodation. There are 5 50% subsidised accommodation places as well! If you have any other questions just ask! :D

Hi, Thanks so much for the replies : ) I contacted someone in DCU and they send me out an application form for DCU Access and I'm pulling together the docs I need for that - have some from the HEAR application that I can re-use but need to get to a solicitor for another one.
Once this form is sent in, is she automatically in the running for the subsidised accommodation? I tried to follow the links provided in the posts but couldn't see the pdf files so wasn't sure if there's something else we may need to fill in.

SB69 - That's pretty good about the 1,000 euro alright. That would really help her if she has to pay for accommodation. When did you find out about the subsidised accommodation offer? Are you told in advance of the CAO offers that you have been successful, assuming you take up an offer (not on reduced points)? Or is it after the offers that the college let you know? Thanks so much for the help!
