    Hi eorna

Had great grass like most people there about three weeks back so closed off some for silage - fertilized and slurried with trailing shoe.

Anyway, one of the fields back in rotation now as the growth is so bad. Bit pi**ed off about it as I hoped for early silage but you have to go with the weather.

Think it pointless keeping up meadow now and having to supplement cattle cause the grazing area not sufficient.

There will be too much grass in 6-8 weeks and people will be closing paddocks cause they have gone too strong so will give it a few more weeks and just bale a bit later than planned.

I would have hoped to have closed up by 9 April, but it will be Monday next 23 now at this stage - 2 weeks late.

What can you do? Grass worth more grazed than held up for silage. Closed ground is not going to be growing much now anyway with the cold spell

I'll only close mine when I have enough on the grazing area, I'm lucky though in that a fair bit of my grazing ground could be cut for silage or wrapped.

So it might be a case of simply swapping a couple of silage/grazing paddocks and close up wherever grass is strongest.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.
