Disability Allowance Means Test Query

I would like my boyfriend to move in with me over the next few months, at the moment he is on disability as he is waiting on a spinal operation. We have read on-line that his disability will be means tested once he moves in. I currently earn 52k gross per year but have a huge mortgage and am putting my son thru college, most months I am lucky to have 50 euros left once the bills are all paid. We are worried about my partners medical bills also if he were to loose his medical card.

Would my outgoings such as mortgage, college fees, accommodation for my son taken into consideration ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a million
    hjt

Unfortunately your outgoings are not taken into consideration when they are doing the assessment for means test. Your boyfriend will be assessed on your earnings if you are living together and although I don't have all of the facts it would appear that together you would be above the limit for him to get Disability Allowance. If you call into your local Social Welfare Office and tell them that you are considering moving in together then they should be able to tell you exactly what the situation is.
