Tablet, will it cover my laptop and smartphone needs?

My laptop is nearing the end of its life and I'm seriously bored with my smartphone (Sony Ericsson Xperia X8).
Rather than buying a new laptop and smartphone, I was thinking of just buying a tablet to cover both needs. I rarely make phone calls or send texts (do most of my communicating online) as I mostly use my phone for apps- navigation, realtime bus/train info etc, so can keep the phone for calls/texts.

How comfortable is a tablet to lug around? I usually carry a massive handbag so space isn't the problem so much as weight.
Also, how well will a tablet suffice instead of a laptop? I've an external HDD for storage anyway, are they comfortable in terms of typing, watching movies, with the right stand?

Galaxy note is what you are looking for.

I have been thinking along these lines, and from what I've read so far, a 10" tablet + bluetooth keyboard case should be a decent alternative for a laptop (for a casual user at least = browsing / email / voip / navigation etc). However, this wouldn't replace the practicality of a phone from pure convenience point of view.

Galaxy Note that LFC Murphy suggested above might be a good middle-ground, but depending on how much one uses the laptop, phone etc, it might just be lacking in all those areas.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, best of both worlds. Physical keyboard if you are doing a lot of typing. Just undock it and its a fully fledged tablet.

+ 1 for the transformer. There are 3 spec levels available now for all budgets. It's the closest thing you can get to replace your laptop and smartphone.

Engadget did a review of the 300 this morning and said it is the tablet to buy in its price range...

You'll need to tell us what you do with your laptop currently. I haven't opened mine once since I bought my tablet but there's no way it could replace my desktop.
