Is Sweden currently in need of qualified workers? What about in the area of office work / computer support?
i.e. is it relatively easy to find work in Sweden?

cost of living in norway much higher.
I've heard so,my friend the plumber has accomodation and flights paid for and makes a good wage,i suppose wages in sweden would be a lot on lower on account of the cost of living

    Hey,

If you are looking at working in Sweden, just bear in mind that there are some administrative hurdles to jump through. If you are coming over with an agency, it will be better, or if you have a job offer in the bag, it will also make your life a little easier

So, Assuming you have Irish citizenship you will have to go through these steps

    1) Migrationsverket You will need to register with them before anything else, and it is much easier if you have a job offer already. Otherwise you fill in the forms and start to wait. You can't do a whole lot before this is done, and can take between 10 days and 3 months to get. This office also shuts down for July and August, so aim to apply at a different time of year

    2) Skatteverket This is where you'll get your personal number. It's basically an National ID number that you need for everything. Bank Accounts, Healthcare, insurance, Swedish Lessons, basically everything where you need to give your details will need a personal number.

If you don't have this, and are applying for jobs in Sweden, it'll be pretty tough. And, as with migrationsverket, office hours during the summer are shorter, so everything can take longer

    3) Housing: This is a pain in Stockholm and other big cities. There are two types of rental; "First Hand" and "Second hand" or "Sublet". First Hand is renting from a housing association or the government, tends to be quite cheap and is difficult to get. Second hand and subletting is what we would actually think of as first hand; it means that you are renting directly from the owner of the apartment. This tends to be expensive, and short term (3 - 6 months), and you are really at the whim of the landlord, much more so than in Ireland.

Finding housing can either be done through an agent, for about E150, or for Free through http://blocket.se which is the equivalent of done deal or adverts. Also, instead of looking for ads, it is much more likely that you will need to advertise yourself, and be contacted. I've used both, and had mixed results. Blocket in particular is a haven for scammers, and is particularly annoying for ladies apparently

But, once you have all this sorted, then you are home free!
