Questions about getting married in America

    Hello,

Me and my fiancee are getting married in America. We have hit a problem regarding how to go about getting the actual marriage certificate.

We thought turning up with ID and a few other things would be enough but now we are not sure if they will want alot more information about us. The form giving us the most concern is to prove we are single.

We are now considering getting married in Ireland, and having the ceremony in America. Would anyone have any experience of this and what advice would you give to someone in our situation?

    Kind Regards,

    Kai.

We are getting married in Las Vegas, and cant find the exact information we are looking for in regards to what we need to bring for the marriage licence.

Half the websites (including the Nivada county clerks website) say all you need to get married is ID and the rest say we need a certificate that we are both single. We would like to hear from anyone who got married their and their experience in what they needed to get the cert.

    Kind Regards,

    Kai.

Quickest way around it is to have a word with the American Embassy surely?

We e-mailed the place in America and they only sent us back a link of their website. Never considered phoning the embassy. Thanks :)

Late reply bit if ur still interested....we got married in Vegas in October 2010.

All we produced was our passports. As long as neither party was married before that's all you need! We arrived in vegas the day before we were due to get married because we heard the queues can be a nightmare but there was only one couple ahead of us when we got there. There are guards/police there to make sure you are not off your head drunk and that kind of thing. :-)

It says everywhere to check your license for mistakes which i did but still managed to overlook that the spelled my name wrong. I was really worried about this but when i got home a wrote a letter to the county clerk and within 2 weeks I had a brand new cert! (With correct spelling)

Although getting married in vegas is not for everyone, we had an amazing experience and I cannot recommend it enough and can't wait to go back again!

    Good luck!
