    Hi
Just as the title says I'm looking for recommendations for a 7-seater 2l or under for my sister & hubby. They are expecting baby no.3 and will have 3 kids under 4 so will need decent boot space too. They will be buying the car under the disabled driver scheme, will have to be auto and they would prefer diesel
    Cheers:)

i'd look at the Ford s max, excellent 7 seater motor, you'd be looking at closer to 40k though for an auto one. The new opel zafaria is another option and would be around the 36k mark for an auto. Both of these are 2l diesel options

Some car brands get an extra few quid off from the disabled drivers association. Think fords get €750-1000 off the car on top of the rebate of vrt and vat. Something to consider possibly

Do they really need the 7 seats or is it just so they can have a bigger boot when the back seats are down?

If you need any info on the disabled drivers scheme let me know, we've got 5 cars under the scheme at this stage.

Why under 2 litre? Engine size is irelevant these days with co2 ax and vrt.
Cars with higher vrt will give you more of a saving.
Road tax will be free for them anyway but don't go too high or it will impact resale.

Any car being bought under the disabled scheme must be under 2.0 litres (otherwise you must pay VRT), they didn't bother changing the engine size restriction when the VRT system was changed:rolleyes:!

Thanks for the suggestion Cozzie - I've mentioned the s-max but my sis not so keen, I think they are a a great car. They really do need a 7-seater, they are big into the family days out at weekends and often bring along other nieces or nephews. Cheers!

New Zafira is worth a look, massive improvement on the previous model.

Why aren't they keen on the smax, is it too big or they just don't like the look of it?

    Zafira is a 5+2 seater isn't it?

You really need a full fat 7 seater if you've got to put a high back booster in the rearmost row.

edit... Scratch that, thought it said 3 under 4 and expecting another but it's expecting number 3 so any of the mini MPVs with 3 full size seats in the second row should be fine.

Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra are basicialy the same car. I would consider these before the S-max or Zafira. It is a proper size 7 seater.

But before they chose diesel over petrol, what type of driving will they be doing? if just short runs / city driving, then I would tell them to get petrol. Diesel engines will not be suitable for this type of driving. If they are going to be doing a lot of motorway driving, then get the diesel.

I think you are thinking about the previous generations of these cars the new sharan /alahambra are completely different cars to the galaxy

True, the Galaxy now uses ford running gear while the others use VAG, but size wise the would be quite similar.

How is the new one better - my other sister has '07 and I wouldn't be a big fan, I have no idea what goen on under the bonnet but its not the nicest looking car!

The zafira tourer has individually sliding rear seats which makes it possible to get into the back row without everyone getting out of the middle row. I believe you can now fold the rearmost seats without sliding the middle seats forward - something you couldn't do before.

It's still not a full size mpv though.
