My Springer/cocker bitch was 2.5 yrs old and had never came in heat. She's a smashing bitch with an unbelievable nose on her, it's a pleasure to shoot over her so I really wanted to see what was going on with her. I got blood sample's taken and sent to the VLSI labs in cork. They came back after a few days and said that there was no signs of ovarian activity.

:( To say I was disgusted was an understatement! It was like getting a kick in the sack from Rodge! But low and behold ten days after the giving her the buserallin injection she started to come in heat. The vet told me not to get my hopes up of her going in pup because the fact that she had shown no ovarian activity meant that she most likely had a cyst on her ovaries and the buserallin had lutalysed it.

So when the timing was right I chanced covering her with Buddy, I lovely hard hunting old style black & white springer & had all fingers & toes crossed. At 50 days I got her scanned and it showed up 5 definate pups & then on Tuesday the first one came. She was in labour for 10 hrs & the finally tally was 5 bitches & 3 dogs. Happy! Happy! Happy! :D:D

Yea I was very surprised & whats even better is how good she is with them, not a bother in her with them. All the pups are big and strong so happy days!

I'm going to keep two dogs and two bitches for myself and the rest will be sold on. Will I pencil you down for one? :D I think an uncle of mine is taking a bitch too, he's always been impressed with my own bitch so he's keen to get the breeding.

There is only one liver and white pup, a bitch, and she has a tinge of black on her ears and has the same tan coloured face as the mother, she should be a smashing looking bitch. There is one of the dogs then with a lovely black sleeve on the front leg and he has a bit of the tan colour running through the black on his head also, I can't wait to see what way they turn out!

I would be tempted on her next litter - sprockers can be great dogs. I have my hands full with the current pup. :o
4 pups? I'd imagine your gonna keep the best of the 4?

I'll most likely keep them all until their about 16 weeks and hold onto the liveliest of them then. I'll train two of them up behind the bitch for feather and i'll train the other two off another 10 month old up and coming bitch I have for fur, she's barking on scent and is extremely hard hunting so she will be a good leader for these pups. The sire of the pups was also a barking dog, so fingers crossed it will all pan out, although it never works out as easy as that! Time will tell a suppose...
