I've been watching the latter day's of Nitro recently and double J is prominent as champ or upper card heel in each episode. In fairness after a decade removed I have to say I enjoyed the Jarrett gimmick. He could work and finally learnt to cut a promo. I've often wondered if he hadn't blacklisted himself to McMahon would we have been a WWE star and would TNA have ever existed?

I never saw too much of WCW back in the day, so only really knew JJ from his wwf days. It was hard for me to accept him as a main eventer, but some of his work in TNA did convince me that he had what it takes. I would have liked to see him prosper under Vince, but sure he only has himself to blame for that.

it was hard to take him seriously as a main-eventer when he was wearing this...

I don't blame him at all for what he did. He was treated like a joke for months, so much so that nobody even noticed his contract was about to expire. He could have just left with the title and showed up on Nitro but was willing to cut a deal first. I'd have done the exact same.

To be honest, I loved Jeff Jarrett when he came back to the WWF in 97. He was doomed from the start when he shot on Austin, and made the worst enemy this side of Vinnie Mac you could make. Loved his cheesy mid-card heel NWA gimmick with his band of old losers and loved his attitude-change, much cooler wife-beating gimmick. Got the idea it's not too far from home. Only got to see him in bits and pieces in WCW but i was happy for him that he got to be on top and have some great matches; even if it's mostly because of his best mate Russo; at least it's a new (but oldschool) guy who does love wrestling getting a break.

It's a shame WCW was such a shambles, they had an incredible roster.

Dark times, but also luminous tights & assless chaps times for WWF.

I remember my dad seeing double J in...95? 96? riding down to the ring on his horse, saying "wow you know this is fake." :pac:

HBK's gimmick should never have gotten over.

it was only that his performance level was that high that it did get over.

JJ can only dream of his quality.

In my list of 20 favourite wrestlers you will always find JJ from any of his characters. I consider him to be a huge missed opportunity for the WWE and both WCW and TNA really helped showcase that. The guy got wrestling better than most and was one of the most effective heels in the history of the business.

He could make both the casual fan and the snarks boo him, which is a bloody tough thing to do. JBL is the only person that jumps to mind from recent memory that could generate that level of heat across each demographic.

I'm a unashamed JJ mark for life, slapnuts!

    Jeff Jarrett is totally amazing.

Jeff Jarrett Double-M A gimmick was one of the greatest gimmicks ever and he stopped it far, far too soon. And when he was reduced to flipping burgers and cleaning toilets too in 2010, that was amazing as well. He could've done loads more with being in Mexico as well. Start calling himself Joseff Jarrett. For shame!

Before leaving for WCW, Russo booked Jarrett to retain the IC belt (his WWF contract ended the day before No Mercy 99, where he was scheduled to drop the belt) and Jarrett basically held McMahon for ransom, saying yes no problem, I'll work one extra day - $250,000 please. And he got it!

Jarrett debuted in WCW the next night. Many believe that this cash was basically used as the downpayment for TNA.
