You used an ICS CF kernel. And you were on Gingerbread. You really should have went to XDA and went to the CF Root thread and downloaded the one that matched your ROM.

    Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487

Download the top firmware & follow the instructions. The root kernels are there too. Download the top one & flash it after you've flashed the firmware.

Problem solved. You will lose all your data, but it's probably gone anyway.

I understand that now. What should I do?

Do as simi said and install that ICS ROM but don't do any wipes. And once you boot into rom backup data. And then re-install the same ROM again this time doing the wipes.

Cheers for the help, but I'm a noob to this. I'm gonna download that ROM in the morning so. Will I install it with Odin? Should I follow the video above's way of unrooting the phone?

What do you mean "don't do any wipes?"

Sorry to sound desperate but can anyone else help? In dire straits :(

EDIT: which kernal do I use on this page? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487

What are you looking to do just get you phone working again.
Go to Sammobile.com and create an account. Then go to the firmware page and download the Meteor firmware on the list for the Galaxy i19100. wipe your phone put it into download mode (hold volume down + power + main button on the front. Then just flash the firmware in the pda section in odin and your phone should boot properly.

By the sounds of it you flashed the wrong root kernel so if you know your old kernel details you could look on xda and flash the correct kernal which would mean that you would not loose you data.

Edit: dont use any of them kernels they are all ICS kernels you need a gingerbread kernel

Look on here and look for a kernel for 2.3.3 that is meteor or open europe.
To be honest im not sure about flashing kernels unless you know your firmware details and match the kernel to the firmware which is what I have always done so Im not to sure maybe someone else can help.
If you are desperate and need to get the phone working again and dont care about loosing data then just flash a full firmware from the xda thread above or sammobile and it will work. Just make sure its open europe or has Ireland in it

This thread greatly helped me out also, guy had the same problem as me but was helped by some very intelligent people.

Can't describe how relieved I am, the thought of bricking my phone

Great to see such great communities like XDA and Boards helping people with problems like these out, I am very grateful :)
