    Hey all,
Just looking for a bit of advice for first proper date. I've gone on dates before but this is the first date in a long time and while it's not the first time that we've met up, it will be the first time that we've arranged to meet on our own.
We've decided to go for a neutral venue, (galway), although i know quite a few friends that will be out in galway on sunday night. It's a neutral venue cos neither of us live there and will have to travel to meet up, him from tipp, me from westmeath.
I suggested going for dinner but he doesn't "do" restaurants. I don't know if it's that he's nervous of it being just the two of us...to be honest, i'm sorts nervous too. What if we don't have anything to talk about? We've always met in groups before this, even though we usually spend the evening just talking to each other but i suppose theres always the knowledge that there's others there if things go silent.
Anyway, a group of friends that i know from college will be in galway this weekend and i don't know if i should just arrange to meet up with them, to make things less awkward?
I don't want to just go straight to pub and end up drinking too much to kill the nerves, which will probably happen, i've messed up dates before by doing this.

Any advice on what i should do would be a great help?

Don't meet up with friends - you've finally organised a date with just you two, no point in going back to the same pattern as before. Some people aren't into dinner, I am one of them, it feels forced and uncomfortable, so I can understand where he is coming from!

Drinks are a great way to loosen up and get to know someone, so I would definitely recommend it, just drink slowly so you don't get drunk too quickly, I've been there ;)

The King's Head is a great spot - head up to the balcony and you have a full view of the band, so if there is any kind of a lull in conversation, you can just watch/pretend to watch the band!

Best of luck, hope you enjoy yourself :)

I'd be really offended if I travelled to go on a date with someone and they met up with their friends!Wouldn't feel like a date at all - and ye'll have to be alone sometime!

I would suggest going for drinks - but go easy on them. Maybe drink something less strong than usual. I know when I'm nervous I start to knock back the drink!Maybe go somewhere with a band so there won't be any awkward silences.

I might be a saddo for doing this but often before I meet up with people I think of a few light hearted conversation topics. Maybe about a film/TV show or even sonme random celebrity news so if there is a lull in conversation you can use it as a back up!

    Good luck :)
