The Mentalist

    Hi guys!

I really like the Mentalist and have really gotten into it recently, but how much longer is it going to be run on RTE? I mean, when is the series going to end? I ask this because I'll be sad to see it ending as there seems to be such a long break between the beginning and end of the season.

Also, why are Channel 5 able to show it three months before RTE? I'd imagine they have both the rights to it around the same time, why do RTE not start the season at the same time? It's so tempting to unlock Channel 5 to watch all the newer episodes but I know at this stage I'll end up missing out on something!

Oh and I only really got into the Mentalist late last year but now I'm a big fan but there's one thing I don't understand! How did Jane get a job as Consultant with the CBI?

Haha sorry for all the questions and if I come across as a Mentalist nutty!!

He got a job because his wife and daughter were murdered and he wanted to use his observation skills to help catch bad guys! :)

Jane is Red John. Suspected to be by CBI, but they lack the evidence. Assigned to Lison so she can get it. But all that is yet to come out.

Obviously not? None of the episodes would make any sense?

that better not be true! you seriously need to find the spoiler tag if ti is!

Nah Jane might be Red John, they keep hinting just to keep the tension up.
I doubt that the writers will tie up the loose ends with that ending. It would piss off too many viewers, this isn't gritty crime drama, it's killer of the week done with humor and charm.

I am baffled to who RJ is!

I can say for sure it's not Jane

If it was Jane, then can anyone explain season 2 finale? That would have been pointless?
Bruno Heller has said we may have already seen Red John and we must second guess ourselves to who it is.Also how would that explain Rosalind Harker? She wouldhave recognised Janes voice

Certainly hinted at that last week, but I still think thats too beyond the pale for the audience.
Mentalist reminds me of murder she wrote in ways reassuring and formulaic tv, what saves it is the likability if the lead and the looks of the support cast.

Next week on RTE, we had the penultimate one last week.
I know it's over in the US but it has a sort of summer show feel for me so I'l stick with RTE's late night spot.

Jane is Red john, the show's producers are dragging it out a bit.

Look at the drawing of the face red john leaves at every crime scene, he kinda looks like jane

No but that's not what's fun about the show. It the way it's done, the mentalism isn't the following or the wire, it's light entertainment, if you don't like it now, you won't, if otoh you take it for what it is, it's good enough for 10.15 viewing as opposed to vinb or tellyshopping.
Last season was poor tbh, I hope they get it together for the final season, I'd hate it to end with a whimper.

I love this program and I was really annoyed with the program synopsis that appeared on the Sky TV Guide for last Tuesday's episode, which was a complete spoiler for what was going to happen in the episode. Are there any other fans out there and do you agree?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,564 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

    what was the synopsis?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,797 ✭✭✭abff

Just in case anyone has recorded it, but not seen it yet, the synopsis was broadly along the following lines:
"The team are devastated when one of them is killed in this episode." I spent the first 20 minutes wondering which one of them it would be, although I had a fairly good guess who it would be and I was right. There was then a scene where she was rushed to the hospital and then pronounced dead.

Yeah I try to avoid reading synopses for any shows I'm really interested in like Walking Dead or Game of Thrones. Think it was advertised that way in the States as well, the week before because I saw loads of people guessing
