Andrew Trimble v Leinster

I often wonder about national teams and how players come together after provincial rivalries.

Watching Ulster v Leinster tonight, I noticed on two occasions in the first half, there was genuine animosity between some Leinster players and Andrew Trimble, (O'Driscoll included).

Do you think players can walk away from this after a game, or are there legacy issues that draw out into International level?

Ah I know from playing friends on other teams myself that we tear absolute lumps out of each other on the field, wind each other up using personal jibes etc. and then have a bit of craic about it after. Pressure and pride build up and boil over. I don't think there is anything in it.

Gee can players not show a bit of passion on the pitch? It's an absolute nothing situation. What happens on the pitch stays on the pitch and all that

Manu Tuilagi left an imprint of his fist in Chris Ashtons head but it doesnt stop them lining out for England together.

    Absolutely nothing in it

Trimble will probably be tweeting the lads about it tonight

Ashton impressed me with comments after that. He was all about leaving it on the pitch and having a few pints.

Absolutely nothing in it. It's a passionate game. Whenever I have a bit of aggro with an opponent on the pitch he's always the guy I shake hands with first, no matter how fisty, there's never any lasting issue. These are big boys.

Well tbh he probably wanted to get on Tuilagi's good side asap if he knew what was good for him :D :pac:

Emotions run high at times, if it doesnt come to blows then its not really even worth talking about.

Interesting comments, I've been on teams with people I've competed against (not rugby) and it was always a good experience, but wondered how it would be handled in a highly physical environment.

In my experience you laugh about it afterwards. I've also been in matches against friends where things get really niggly, but what happens on the pitch stays on the pitch.

I got into a fight with one of my best mates on the pitch a few years ago when playing against him. He gave me a lift home afterwards...nothing in it, you always just want to get one over your mates!

    Dear WeeBushy,

You are the worlds biggest wind up merchant on the field!!!!!

    Kind Regards Malmedicine

Back on topic, yes generally it is left on the field but only until the next time you meet on the field, then it gets ramped up and the stakes become higher.

it's not the first time o'driscoll has had a pop at an ulster player in the last few years. i dunno what he was playing at last night, trimble was well in his rights to get a hold of the ball. didnt show him up in a good light for me.

cullen baiting pedrie with some back slaps and a thumbs up when he gave away a penalty really really annoyed me. that was wannenburg's last game at ravenhill. ive read falloon was at it as well, i didnt see it, but if he did that is also annoying.

If anything O'driscoll seem more annoyed than Kearney and Trimble kinda seem to be laughing it off,

As for Cullen he doe's seem to do the pat on the opposite players back alot!pisses me off to! I think I even remember Him doing it to Rory best when he gave a penalty in a ruck away and I think the ref turned the penalty on cullen for doing it. But don't quote me on that was couple years ago

O'Driscoll was defending kearney who was on the ground and Trimble was ripping ball off him. Kearney should have released, but didnt and the Leinster lads were just trolling a bit to slow Ulster down. Absolutely nothing in it.
