Hi everyone me and a friend are heading away for 3 weeks at the end of may start of June was thinking thailand or las vegas-san diego-LA just wondering which of these you would recommend for two 21 year olds obviously two of the main things for us would be women and partying but we'd love to do stuff during the day seeing sights, relaxing etc was just wondering what people would recommend based on personal experiences?

Been to Las Vegas twice and am currently in Thailand on my second trip here, Thailand is much cheaper and infinitely more fun, the sort of money you'd spend in Vegas will see you live like a king here. So much to do and see and some brilliant party spots also, becareful of the women, they might turn out to be men though! :D and HIV is rife so cover up before you do something stupid!

Wow they're definitely 2 very different trips!

I've been to both and I'd probably also recommend Thailand, for the same reasons as above. Vegas will cost you a fortune especially going out, gambling and any shopping you might do!Thailand on the other hand is dirt cheap and it'll be full of backpackers who will also be after women and partying.

Just to note it will be the rainy season in some parts of Thailand at the end of May/start of June so you'll need to do yor research about where to go!

Ya we have decided on Thailand I think. We were going to go to bangkok, chiang Mai and the islands ko samui etc, would there be much rain in theses places do you know?

    This site might help http://www.travelfish.org/weather/thailand

The weather in Ko Samui should be perfect that time of year - not sure about Bangkok and Chiang Mai. It will be rainy season in Phuket/Phi Phi.

I wouldn't really worry too much about the rain - from what I've heard it often only rains heavily for an hour or two and then the weather is back to being lovely :)

Yea the rain is welcome.. Air feels so many fresher after an hour's downpour.

You should be ok with them if you're not trekking or going to far off the beaten track. Also make sure your tetanus shots are up to date.

Thanks for the help so far everyone I just have a few more questions if ye would be so kind to answer them

    1) does anyone know of a good hotel near ko Sahn road? And down in the islands for the full moon party?
    2) what's the best way to get into Bangkok from suvarnabhumi airport?
    3) what's the best thing to do with money just convert everything to baht, use cards or travellers check?
    4) can anyone recommend a good back pack, I know there was a thread about but I can't find it, I'm goin for 3 weeks but I'll be moving around a good bit
    5) I was going to try go to Angkor wat in Cambodia for a day has anyone done this before?

I know it's a lot of questions but I'd appreciate the help thanks!!

I've never stayed or actually been in Khaosan road so can't help, it is full of backpackers and other farangs so that was enough for me to avoid it!

Take a taxi from the airport, just make sure they use the meter, otherwise get the next taxi. You can take train into the city but after a long flight it is stressful especially if you new to the city. The train is very cheap.

Travellers checks are no longer used, I used my credit card and it worked great. You will get a better rate if you change high value euro notes into baht so you could take a few hundred euro and change it out there to get you started.

Never owned a backpack so can't comment either, I was in Thailand last month for three weeks and it was my second trip to the country, absolutely love it there, so laid back and a great life with the nice weather.

Talk to a specialist travel doc. What you need changes from year to year and place to place. Don't know what it is at the moment but I was in Thailand in about 2005 or so and we were told if we went to Chang Mai we needed malaria prophylaxis. So best talk to the experts :)
