    Hi y'all,

I'm getting married in the summer and I'm thinking of getting my bestman and groomsmen a hip flash with the date engraved on it. Obviously it'll be full of their favourite spirits!

I'm wondering where is the best place to get them if anyone got it done before?

I don't think this is a good gift idea. My husband has several of the things after being best man for various weddings. Give them something like a voucher or pay for their accomodation or get them nice cufflinks, hip flasks are a bit of a cliche gift that no one really wants, especially if engraved with the date of someone else's wedding.

Thanks for the heads up but I'm wondering where is the best place to get them?

Could you ask your husband to ask his mates where they got them?

    Thanks.

You can get them in Tierneys Gift Shop (one in Stephen's Green, another in the Ilac Centre) or you could try any shoe repair / dry cleaners, they generally have them and can engrave them.

^^ This. Hipflasks are a thing of the past, we're not living back in the 1950s where men carry hipflasks around with them. Plus being engraved with the date of someone else's wedding isn't a good idea, OP would you want a present with the date of someone else's wedding engraved on it? I doubt it!

I completely agree with lazygal, pay for their room on the night of the wedding or some nice cufflinks or a voucher for their favourite shop. But a hipflask will most likely get chucked in a box and remain there.

I'm planning somehting much the same for my wedding, and for refrence both of the groomsmen do use hipflasks on occasion.

Have a look at http://www.flaskstore.com/ the do a decent range & engrave them

How many hipflasks does a man need though? I've personally got 3 as gifts at different stages and can remember one occasion almost a decade ago when I got use out of one of them...

I got ours in a stall shop in the ilac centre near the Moore street end.

They did silver cuff links and the hip flasks with the coat of arms on them.

Our best man and fathers of the bride were delighted!

They're great for bringing on ski trips when its cold. Other than that, i dont find much use for them although every man should have one!

This is where I've seen them before:
    http://shop.confetti.co.uk/category/personalised-gifts-for-him

Seriously guys, if you're here just to criticise the OP's choice of gift, don't...
We can all think of better presents for ourselves that someone else can, but that's not what the question or post was about.

They're also good for bringing into Croker! And into other similar establishments!

No harm in giving someone a heads up when it's likely that they're wasting their money. Most of us planning weddings are on tight budgets and personally nothing would irritate me more than knowing any of the money I was spending on ours was going to waste.

That's exactly what I was doing. Himself has been a best man a few times and like I said doesn't use any of the hipflasks or silver beer tankers he was given, without exception anyone I know who got one thought they were a waste of money. I think most couples would rather not spend money on something the recipient will never use.
