Health Insurance Claim vs Tax Refund

Hi, would appreciate any help on this.

I'm a member of an health insurance company and claimed a refund for a GP cost incurred. I did receive a certain % of the cost by check.

However, am I also entitled to any tax refund for this GP visit? If yes, how much % of the cost should I expect to see?

Also, my company has been paying my insurance as BIK for the last 4 years. I recently claimed a refund for this but just wondering how much % approximately I can expect to receive the refund.

    Thanks,:

You claim tax relief on the portion of your health expenses not covered by your insurer. For example if you have 300 total expenses and your insurer covers 200, you claim tax relief on the remaing 100. This is granted at the standard rate of tax (20%)

Tax relief on your health insurance premium is granted at the standard rate also.

Whatever wasnt covered ny the health insurer can be claimed using a MED1 form. -- assuming it is a qualifying expense you would get 20% as a tax refund.you might actually be able to claim this on PAYEonline
    Expenses 1000
    Insurance covers 500
    Med1 claim 500
    Tax refund 100

If your emplyer pays your NI premium you should be getting a tax credit of 20% of the Premium.- If you had to request this previously chances are you have it included in your credits for this year. Just check PAYE online or call Revenue
