hi, my mother has a canon pixma inkjet printer. she doesn't need to print colour, so i changed the printer properties on laptop to black and white and greyscale, but now that the colour ink cartridge has run out, the printer won't print at all! anyone know any way round this? or do i need to buy her a colour cartridge jut to keep printing black?
would be very grateful for any help.

All inkjet printers will "waste" ink regularly to ensure that ink heads don't dry out, this is why you notice the colour ink depleting over time even without being used. Try using compatible inks (their cheaper) and either continuing on using the Canon, or buy a cheap black and white laser printer (which will be more cost effective usually for large amounts of b&w printing and no colour toners needed)

My dad found a really great value site for ink in the uk and I can testify the colours are spot on.

    http://www.inkredible.co.uk/

There is an extra 20% off there also, the coupon code is on the top of their page...

I had a quick look on that site for my own printers ink (Epson) and the Irish ones I use are considerably cheaper, check out: www.justmedia.ie, www.inkjet.ie and www.inkmaestro.ie and see which has your particular printers ink cheapest. I use Just medias Epson ink and its perfect :)

Guess it depends on the printer then because:

6 x set of 5 for Pixma 4700 on Just media for 12.61each if you buy 6 + 7.71euro shipping

    (12.61*6+7.71=83.37/6=13.90 each)

    On Inkcredible:

    4 @ £6.24each free shipping and 20% discount

    (6.24*4= £24.96*.8 = 19.96 / 4 = £4.99 in euro at .81c to the pound = 6.10)

    Massive saving.

(PS the other 2 sites you linked are even more expensive.

It pays to shop around, I can get 6 inks for my Epson for €8, I usually buy in bulk to get over the 50 mark (DVDs, ink for others etc) for free shipping. It costs £20 for the Epson set on incredible so a huge difference, maybe its cheaper for the Canon ink! :)
