AN Post frying post?

I've had 3 packages damaged in the last 3 weeks that came to me here in Cork through An Post.

2 packages from UK, 1 from India.

2 separate cases of scorched DVDs, in the last the case bottom of many discs where black from burning, there is a strong smell of burning plastic from them and the packaging.

1 case of floppy disks being melted, with the paper wrapping burnt, the seller of these made an insurance claim this week, sent him the pics, said he never saw anything like it.

I only clicked today (after the latest damaged goods arriving), that the one consistent thing here is that all the packages are coming though An Post, also; no packages where tampered with, so I can only assume that An Post have some kind of X-Ray gear that is either faulty or not property configured that is doing all this damage.

I wanted to warn other people about this, as I was about to send out a bunch of CD's myself, but can't even do that without assuming the same will happen.

.. Anyway, I'm going to the GPO tomorrow to make a claim on this, and I hope they will actually do something to fix this issue ASAP.

[More pics attached below, if you look carefully at the DVDs, you can see burn marks where the lead-in data is, along with the more obvious damage all over the discs]

Only the person that sent the items in the post can make a claim. As recipient, you cannot make any claims.

Didn't know that, thanks for the info.. I'll see if I can get a phone number for the right person at An Post to at least make them aware of this, as I don't want my next packages to arrive burnt/radiation scorched yet again.. Ridiculous situation.

    Update:
Got onto An Post, they tell me they don't even have x-ray machines..
That this is done at the airports, going to submit a damaged goods form with pictures, so they can at least investigate it. Sender hasn't replied yet, only way of getting a refund is through them.

    No prob.
If what I was told by An Post is correct, it's only airmail that gets x-rayed .. so you *might* be safe if posting within Ireland.. personally I'm not risking it until I hear back from them.
The floppy disks had holes melted right through them where the springs are, crazy stuff

to be honest it looks like your stuff was microwaved and not x-ray'ed that is scary stuff.

Those items have been subjected to microwaves not X-Rays. Even a maladjusted X-Ray machine wouldn't have the energy required to do that sort of damage.

No trees were harmed in the posting of this message, however a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

I think you guys might be right, I googled it, and the damage looks exactly like this:

Also the damage to the floppy disks seems consistent with this scenario.
..Now I just was told that my sister who my post gets delivered to, puts packages in the cupboard above the microwave, or directly on top of it ....
I've heard it's dangerous to stand in front of a microwave when it's on... so I'm guessing that this could be plausible.. more plausible than the postal service doing it I'd think..
Maybe I can get her to stick a blank cdr on top of it, and check it a few days afterwards to put it do rest.
