Urgent Help Needed Accidental Disk Wipe

    I was doing a backup on a laptop before wiping and reinstalling windows.
    I copied photos and music to my external hard disk then inserted the Windows 7 disk and restarted the computer, booted from disk and did a custom install.
    I deleted all partitions from the laptop however the external disk was still connected and I deleted it too. It is not showing up as unallocated space.

    I think that to use recuva the disk has to be formatted. I don't want to do this in case that loses more data.

    All help appreciated.
