3rd/4th Place Play-offs

Apart from the FIFA World Cup, do any other tournaments hold a 3rd/4th play-off? Does this match interest you at all? Do you consider it prestigious?

Do you think it's a good way to let a few lads play on the grand stage a la Oliver Kahn for Germany in 2006? Or do you think it's an unfair extra match for a player to try nab the Golden Boot (Davor Suker in '98)?

I know RTE doesn't take it too seriously seen as they had the Apres Match boys doing the live coverage!

Would it interest you for any other competitions to adopt it or should it just be done away with completely?

The Olympic Games football tournament has a third place game in order to assign the bronze medals.

(and of course the prestigious Dublin Super Cup @ Lansdowne Road has a 3/4 game in order to create as many pointless fixtures per year for the nations white elephant.)

Don't have too much interest in it myself. I always watch it, but regardless of who's playing I just finding myself wanting to get the game over and done with so I can watch the final the next day.

It's a money spinner for FIFA/UEFA etc so won't be done away with, but personally I wouldn't really care if it was discontinued.

Don't think it did pal, nice try all the same. Damn those high profile foreign teams coming over to entertain their fans!

The best part about the 3rd/4th place play off is Aprés Match doing the punditry.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    This.
Though I find the game itself can be fantastic to watch as both teams have nothing really to lose. I remember the Uruguay - Germany game in 2010 was great to watch as was the Turkey - South Korea game in 2002.
Also, the African Cup of Nations and Asian Cup also have 3rd/4th place playoffs.

The FA Cup had a 3rd/4th place play-off for a few years in the 70s.

    Oh, the glory!!! :D:D

If we were in it i would want us to win it, its the WC with no pressure on the players, better to be 3rd than 4th and its a Que Sera Sera moment for the fans.

I'd agree with having the play-offs. World Cups are so few being every four years, being bronze medalists is still a decent achievement.
