Another good show lads, along with a contribution from our new panelist 'Michel' from France.
It's all about the domestic leagues as Talking Rugby looks at the RaboDirect Pro12, the Aviva Premiership and the Top14 in France as the battle for playoff places heats up.

We have a big panel this week, coming from Ireland we have Pedro, Doc and William while for our French discussion we are joined by our regular man Daithi and also newcomer Michel.

    Coming up on the show:

    PART 1: RABODIRECT PRO12 REVIEW
0:00 - After the team say hi, we look at Munster's win over Glasgow, a crucial result in the playoff race.
12:45 - Leinster destroyed Edinburgh, scoring 8 tries in the process.
20:30 - Connacht beat Ulster for the first time in a long time and William is less than happy with Ulster's selection.

    PART 2: RABODIRECT PRO12 PREVIEW
28:55 - Scarlets face Munster in a must win game for both sides, with our resident Munster fan full of confidence for this side!
31:40 - A potential prelude to a Heineken Cup Final as Ulster face Leinster.
36:20 - Connacht face basement side Aironi and the panel also look at the other games and the table in general.

PART 3: TOP 14 DISCUSSION (with Michel and Daithí)
42:20 - The mess at Racing Metro, with president Jacky Lorenzetti sticking by his coach Pierre Berbizier to the angst of many players.
48:30 - The lads talk about the latest results in the Top 14.
52:30 - Suspensions for Toulon, but not for their players!

PART 4: AVIVA PREMIERSHIP + MEDIA STORIES
1:05:10 - Pedro and Doc talk the playoff race and the relegation battle between Leicester and Wasps.
    1:11:10 - Media Stories!

Note: This show was recorded on tuesday nights where odds were not readily available. Our choice for Bet of the Week will be decided later and tweeted and posted on our facebook page by friday afternoon. See details below for links to our social media!

Let me be clear that the poor quips by Dave O'Grady do not in any way reflect the collective sense of humour of the group. :D

This weeks bet of the week was Leinster -1 (@ 1.91 with Skybet) vs Ulster. Unfortunately, the -1 has gone now (presumably the bookies were taking a hammering!), but -2 and -3 are widely available. Still plenty of value there in our opinion:
Both sides at full tilt would probably be fairly close to evens for a match in Ravenhill. However Ulster are missing 4 of their best players and 7 in total, while Leinster choose to rest 3. While a first choice composite 23 might have maybe 10 Ulster players, one drawn from the names on show would have no more than 4 or 5. Equally, neither side is likely to go 100% tomorrow as the biggest focus is on next week. Both sides will make liberal use of the bench and Leinsters has much more impact.

    some thoughts here:

Of tonights other games, I'd fancy a strong Clermont side to beat the 8 point cap at home to Montpellier.

Haven't reviewed tomorrows games in substantial detail yet - but I'd expect some tasty value.

I decided to go mad and grab a Leinster/Ospreys/Clermont h/c treble. Risky but that'll have me glued to my telly and internet!

Episode 37 is being recorded tonight (around 8pm) and will feature David Barnes, the former Bath prop and current chairman of The Rugby Player's Association, basically the union for players in English rugby.

If anyone has any questions for him, please post here!

Why are Irish teams so much better than English teams?

What are the biggest issues he is facing at the moment?

How does he feel the salary cap in England is affecting his members and does he have any views on the soon to be implemented Welsh version?

    Cool, keep them coming.

Paddy Wallace clearly took a bang on the head last week yet injury was reported as migraine. Retired players talk about concussions being covered up. Why aren't the IRUPA talking up on the issue of covering up head injuries more? Should these players not receive better protection?

I don't think David can speak for them tbh but good question.

Maybe not the IRUPA in particular, I'm just giving an example.

Grand job, I just didn't want to rephrase the Q if you weren't happy.

The show is starting in a few minutes but keep on posting the Qs, I'm listening in on the show and will check the thread every few minutes.

This is the guy for those of you who don't know him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUGA4Z8zwmM

    Keep the questions coming!

Ask him prop stuff too. He's obviously a rarity in that he is a front row player capable of stringing a few sentences together!

What to do about the scrum?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

Feel free to post on our facebook page or drop us a tweet, the details are in the OP. Would be nice to spread the sources around! :D

With the first crop of players who developed in the pro game retired, is there a concern with potential long term health issues arising from bigger and stronger players. Is there work being done to assess players long term health and the impact the pro game has had on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,442 ✭✭✭its_phil

Does he believe a qualification system for the Heineken Cup in the Rabo need to be introduced to make things fairer on English and French clubs? Is there a bitterness from Aviva players over what is essentially guarenteed qualification?

His opinion on the salary cap too

All these were asked. The other questions were indirectly covered during the show (expect ROG or Sexton! :P).

It should be published on thursday. Thanks for the input everyone!
