Small Sitting room

Hiya - we're redecorating our sitting room! We've left it as the original owners had it and this weekend we're finally putting our own stamp on it.

    And there's the problem. :D

I don't like the orange, terracotta type colours you see in typically "cosy" sitting rooms, this is my husbands only ask, it must be cosy. I've been looking a lot at greys and blues lately and think it might be a nice way to use neutrals but they're not exactly cosy are they? A local restaurant looks very well with dark wood, deep green, purples and blues - very cosy but lively at the same time.

I'm thinking of trying to use greys on the walls with one darker colour and use the deep colours around the room with throws, cushions etc. We have a dark brown leather sofa, and beech floors which have to stay.

Do you think those colours would work together or too busy for a small room? Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Any tips Ive received for small rooms is to keep it warm, neutral or light, so creams, and lighter shades of blues, greens yellows etc as they are easy to compliment with throws etc.

My friend has a relitvely small sitting room with a feature wall of wallpaper, feature walls are a good idea and give a modern feeling, but my opinion and advice would be to be careful and do tests perform you dive in.

I think dark colours could make the room feel smaller..

Google Image "interior designs" "small sitting room colours" etc and you may get ideas
