I opened a business in Dec 2011, but never traded and have since decided against proceeding with the business.

What do I need to do to close the business?

A Business or a Limited Company?

By "open" what do you mean?
Is it just registering a sole trader name with the CRO?
If so - deregister with the CRO, job done.
If you are a limited company with two €1 shareholders or whatever - repay the share capital and then deregister.

While it is a simple proceedure, its not that simple. Let the OP answer my original question and then we can give the proper advice.
