    Hey,

Am a mountain biker - but finding myself doing a few of these adventure races. So I wouldn't mind having a road bike....

However - don't want to spend lots. Anyone got any recommendations on websites or shops that I could go to? Or should I go for a really cheap new bike? I'd say 5 races this year max - and WAR Gledalough already in the bag.

    Thanks

I'd say have a look on a few of the second hand sites (adverts, gumtree, donedeal, adverts section on here). You should be able to find something decent for 400 beans provided you're confident you know what size you need and you know enough to distuinguish a turkey from a decent deal.

I was recently hunting for a cheap bike for a friend and she got a very good deal on here with a second hand bike. I'd definitely be going second hand, aluminium frame. carbon forks with 105 should be doable at that price, depending on the factors.

Or if you have bike 4 work scheme you could get a boardman road bike for under 400 (depending on tax saving)

Got Carerra Virtuosa with Halfords recently for way under 400

    Use http://www.biketowork.ie/employee-information/ to calculate savings

No halfords bashing, it the only people my employers deals with

Definitely go second-hand, I got a trek 1500 with full ultegra, carbon forks and seatpost and upgraded wheels for 480 on adverts before christmas.

Been seen here before but keep the MTB and get slick tires...

    Thanks all.
Yep - defo holding on to the Mountain bike - and someone else did suggest slicks for it. Bought that on the bike to work - so not an option this time.
Will keep an eye on done deal, adverts, gum tree etc. Did get sized - so 51/52 is good for me.
    Cheers again
