    Hi
Would anyone know the ball park cost of moving from an astra to qashqai .
I have a 2009 astra exclusive , car kit & alarm. 47K km and would be looking
to trade in for a 2008-2009 qasqai with the same or lower milage.
The wife is expecting and is convinced the qasqai would be better for her and baby .

    Cheers - Paul

I'm assuming its the Astra H, I'd expect the cost to change would be significant.

Can anyone agree on a fair straight price for an 09 qashqai?

I reckon you'd buy one straight from 13k
The Astra youd I'd say you'd buy from €9500

Based on these top of my head figures id say you'd be looking at spending €5000 or so

    Assuming both are diesel

Talk to your wife, the Nissan will offer very little improvement in any area for your growing family. It will be an expensive mistake. An estate would make much more sense for buggys and all the other stuff that comes with new kids.

Qashqai is quite handy with a kid as you're not stooping down lifting them in, if it's her first it may be overkill to be getting an SUV type yoke

Unless your Astra is a 3 door then I don't see the sense in changing at all.

Are you sure she isn't just falling into the child = SUV, keeping up with the jones's type rubbish?

Isn't "Exclusive" a Vauxhall trim level rather than Opel? If so then a 09 Vauxhall Astra will be worth a bit less than a similar Opel Astra.

Either way you will be spending a bit of money, the Quashqai is still popular so resale values are still quite strong.

The Qashqai has a crazy small boot, it's on par with any 5 door hatch back. If you were to get a Quinny buggy for example that would take up the entire boot. like a previous poster suggested get a estate.

Well in fairness, it could also be an Astra van, now that would be a very good reason to change :pac:.

In all seriousness OP, if you are changing just because of a new baby, you are going to lose money BIG time. A regular 4/5 door Astra is more than capable of meeting any new baby needs. Even if the prospect of an increase in ride height is the reason, at least stick with the Astra and see how it goes before changing. You can get car seats that turn now, which make it a lot easier to load up junior.

If you said you were due a change for an '11 or '12 car as part of your car buying pattern, then fair enough, but an '09 for an '09 is financial craziness imho.

Is the Qashqai actually bigger than the Astra? I know they are taller with more ground clearance and have beefed up bumpers to make them look like a SUV but other than that they are still based on an Astra/Focus size car.

We got an 09 petrol qashqai with 18000 miles on it recently for 14 k. We have a baby. The height does suit putting a baby into car seat etc. boot isn't massive but will do. No complaints.

It makes my wife very happy. If you can afford it it's worth it.

    I can't see you getting a diesel 09 Qaashqai for 13,000.

One of the big Dublin car wholesale guys got 12,700 from the trade recently for a 08 diesel, needing a door repaired.

southernstar says he paid 14k for a 09 petrol one, and the diesels are a lot more desirable.

Ok, retail seems to start around €15500, so well roughly 6000-6500 to change from a 1.3d Astra?

Many thanks for all the helpful replies .
Just to clarify - wife has a 3 door golf , I have the 5 door astra (petrol).
I was going to swap cars with the wife but she was looking at the qasqai to save her back from repetitive strain.
The only advantage I can see to the qashqai is the extra height .
The height is the only difference I see between the astra and qasqai myself
but if it's going to be an extra 5-6k , I dont see this as worth it.

    Not worth it at all.
We have a Qashgai +2 and it's a lot smaller inside than the outside would suggest.
Repetitive strain? For the first couple of months (6? 8? I forget) she can just lift the rock-a-tot in and out and clip it to the base that stays in the car. After that, get one of the seats that rotate to face the door, as Unkel mentioned. They cost a bit extra but well worth it, and a darn sight cheaper than changing the car.
