    Hi,

Just looking for some advice on renting. I am 28yr old female currently living at home (have just returned from travelling). Basically I am looking to move out in the next couple of months, none of my mates are in a position to share with me and as my budget is €450 max I would not be in a position to get a 1 bed on my own. I just am not comfortable sharing with strangers  any suggestions??

What area are you in? Your location will go a long way to determining how far your €450 will stretch.

If you dont want to houseshare and you cant afford a 1 bed apartment then Im not really sure what other options you have tbh. Maybe something like a converted garage/granny flat on the side of someones house? Might be cheaper than renting an apartment but it would have its own entrance so technically you wouldnt be in a houseshare/a lodger.

To start, try and get a room with a live-in landlord. Usually the accommodation is better and cheaper. However, as a lodger you have very few rights.

In spite of the few rights,I still prefer being a lodger as it is much easier to get out of the agreement; if you like it you stay if you don't, you leave with a short notice period. Furthermore, there are usually only one or two lodgers at most. However, if you want tyo party every night, that is would be out!

What you get on that budget will depend on where you live. Are you sure you wouldn't want to share with a close friend?

You don't have to bring much stuff with you from your parents place in case you're worried about stuff getting nicked and you could always ask for a key to lock your bedroom.

Unless you live in Donegal or Cavan you have no hope of getting anything for that kind of money. I'd suggest either consider sharing with strangers - believe me, its easier than friends. Or else wait until somebody you know is looking for a housemate and then jump. Let people you socialise and work with know you are looking, a lot of rentals operate on a word of mouth basis.

Bedsitters in Rathmines are going for €100 a week.
