Antique single-shot rifle - will it take a scope?

I would appreciate advice on an old single-shot 0.22 rifle. It's an antique (pre-war, German make). I have used it occasionally (rabbits over open sights, and a fox once) and have often toyed with putting a spare telescopic sight on it.

Can anyone tell me what would be involved - there's no 'dove-tailed rail' for a sight - could one be added?

And would adding one spoil its antuque value (as little as that might be).

I mostly keep this for sentimental reasons because of its history, and I wouldn't like to spoil it. A single shot is not the most practical of weapons, but you certainly need to get a clean kill with the first shot, because there is no fast way to get off a second shot!

Any advice welcome, and also any suggestions for who might do it, if its do-able.

    Thanks,

    LostCovey

PS a photo of it is here

It looks very similar to the simple single shot .22lr's made in birmingham by bsa , the germans were known to copy successful designs , but make them better and cheaper undercutting the competition.
Don't butcher it by fitting a scope mount , buy a modern cz if you want a scoped rifle , leave this alone.

I have to agree it would take away from the Gun and as you said.

Thanks to both of you, that has convinced me. I will leave it in its original state and keep it licenced. To be honest I got similar advice offline, and I was looking for another view.

Its a beautiful gun, lovely balance and its made by Anschutz. Not the most practical as a single shot with open sights but it gets me supper an odd time if I get close enough with the car!

    Thanks very much.

Yes. It is illegal to shoot from any vehicle.

Its a beautiful looking gun don't butcher it it would be a crying shame.
Guns like these are hard to come by in original condition.

Thanks very much iTom, thats nice to hear.

I don't intend to do anything to damage it. However its a pity that something that costs so much to keep licenced has such limited use and (I suspect) very limited monetary value.

I keep it for sentimental reasons only, and I won't butcher it for the same reasons I have resisted several suggestions to have it de-activated. I will keep it original and licenced for as long as I can afford to - however I don't think the next generation will have the same grá for it.

And when they sell it, they will look at the paltry sum they get from some dealer and say "why the f?&* was the ou'l fella spending good money licencing that thing!!!!"
