Imagine if he had sold it for the $6,000 it was valued at.

    :D

It look's beautiful...and then he turns it over it's like  Mother of God!

I guess if you went straight to Patek they might write a cheque. :D

it was his grand daddys pride and joy handed down, Im sure the price is realistic at 250k, but could you sell it, take the money and lose the history?

Personally no. But say I end up with no kids (hopefully not). You would have to pass it onto another family member I guess.

Why not sell to Patek and let them display for people who would appreciate it. I'm sure they'd kit the family out with watches they might actually use and enjoy. Better than letting it sit in a safe deposit box.

I'm with DD on this one. If I collected all the grail watches I hanker after it would come to about 10% of the suggested auction price. With Pateks the suggested price is likely bloody low too.:D

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I think there is a Patek museum in New York. I'm sure they could put I in a display case with photographs of the mans father who originally received the watch. It would be a nice way of passing on the Legacy.
