'06 320D rear shock fail ( leaking ) on NCT test for sisters car. BMW looking for mad money for the pair supply and fit. Motor factors quoting 160 for the pair. Anybody do it ? Just curious if the shocks are a handy swap out.

If the €160 is including VAT, it isn't a bad price for them, you could try the likes of otto or gsf to see if they do any better. The E36/E46 shocks used to be about €50 each, but these ones are slight different design.

The good news is that they aren't too bad to change.

Thanks DD. much appreciated. Consort quoted 160 for both ( all in ) so will go with that as local MF quoted 98 ea.
That's my sat morning sorted. :)

What brand are you getting for €160 and what were you getting for 98 each?

Shock brands can vary in quality as much as car brands can.

Will verify brands later. Thanks ND.

Brand is KYC. €78ea in Consort. Mulhuddart MF quoting €98ea for same part. Any feedback on the quality of the parts would be appreciated. The changing of the parts looks pretty straight forward.

KYB perhaps? They are middle of the road in terms of quality.

Kyb are ok but I wouldn't but them into a e90 and if it's a msport you would be beter off pay the extra few quid for the beter brand being honest. We put a set in to a e90 not so long ago as it was all that was in stock now I'm talking a few months ago but we have a issue with the passenger side one again so customer isn't happy so point blank now we won't use them.but it's up to you.depends on the budget but ya no the saying goes buy cheap buy twice just my two pence worth

Thanks lads. Yep, apologies. KYB is correct. Anyway, I ordered them from finglas first this morning and they arrived this afternoon. 150 for the both. Not too concerned as the sis in law does little driving on pretty decent roads for the best part ( not M spec by the way ). I've taken the punt so fingers crossed :)

How did she burst the old one then?

    :D

    (Sorry, just being witty!)

All done. Took about an hour for the both. Most awkward part is removing all the inner boot liners. As it turned out, the shocks were bilstein. Very easy job. Thanks for the input folks :)
