Question about donedeal.ie

I recently placed an advert on that site. Since then I have received three text replies from different numbers, all requesting the price of the item and response by email. I did not recognise any of the numbers to be from an Irish mobile.

Considering that the price of the item is clearly stated in my advert, I am suspicious regarding the motives of the respondents, as each specifically requires a response by email.

Has anyone here encountered such behaviour before - am I simply being paranoid?

Did they refer to it as "the item" in their texts? This is classic scam, as it's always copy-pasted and sent to thousands or people (if not millions). Never referring to anything in particular, always generic words like "the item", "my shipping agent", etc.

If that's not enough, then add in the foreign mobile phone number and you've got a 100% scam.

Yes, I recall mention of "the item." I deleted the texts immediately, but I was certainly curious about the replies.

    'Dearest Lady,
I am interested in your item, please reply with final price and I will send you a cheque and my shipping agent will contact you to arrange delivery.'

'Hi, thanks - please post your cheque to my work address:

    An Garda Siochana Headquarters,
    Phoenix Park,
    Dublin 8.'

    :D
